Default What Should my Gauges be Reading ?

I've finally got round to wiring some new "AutoGauge" Stealth 2 Gauges to my 55 Impreza. They are a BOOST and OIL PRESSURE Gauge, both measuring in BAR.

As the title suggests, what should they be reading on say a normal idle tick over ?

I ask for 2 reasons:
  1. To make sure they are working correctly (ie they are wired right).
  2. So i know what to look out for if things are going wrong (ie the reason they are in place)
The main reason for their fitment is they look so damn good, but i have to consider their true purpose in life !!

Many thanks,

Steve

My boost,
on idel is -6 i think!!
Under 0,
when driving Normally (not hard etc..) it reads just above 0.
if this helps..

Oil Pressure reads about 25!!! when on idle
& about 45 when driving, Ish

all above readings are going by what i can remember.
Not drived car since sunday, so cant remember the Numbers that well, as mine are pretty new aswell.

My car oil pressure is around 3-5 bar on start up, once warm goes to around 1 bar and the boost pressure is about -0.6bar as Baz says

1 bar oil pressure?? bloomin heck thats low. most seem to run around the 3 bar mark unless oil is realy hot from a thrashing. (not gonna be a prob if cars set up for that)

boost will show negative if off power (there is a reason but can't remember what it is, but rest assured its fine) then should peak at about a bar depending on what its mapped to, mine reads about 1.4 max spike and 1.2 average which is bang on cos its mapped to that

Thanks guys, my BOOST is on about -0.75bar and OIL PRESSURE is about 3.8bar. Both of these are at cold idle. Can't be bothered to take it out at the moment, to cold and damp out there !!

Thanks again, at least i know they are operating correctly.

Steve

Out of interest, what are the signs when things are going wrong, an increase or decrease in pressure ?

Huh ?

I mean if there is a problem with the OIL, ie it is low, is pressure increased or decreased ?

I'm new to all this stuff !!

If you think theyre there to solely to look good you dont deserve em mate

Theyre there to monitor, if they aint reading right theyre about a useful as an underwater hairdryer. I only eventually went for the Defis cos i wanted a gauge that would alert me without me having to look at it on full tilt.

Watching EGT's and ACTs at WOT in 6th aint fun... id rather be watching the road to be honest.

You're right Tiny, that comment did get a response !!

Whilst we are on the subject of vehicle statistic monitoring, has anyone got an OBD scantool fitted ? Looking at adding one to the CarPC

Then there will be lots of 'virtual' Gauges to look pretty !!

Here dude,

Heres the link to the flash cable

http://www.mocomracing.com/product_d...&cat=15&sub=19

Edited to say,

Not much use unless youre gonna be logging it all. Still wont let you see intake charge temps only MAF temps. Wont see EGT temps or AFR.

Only really of use if you know what youre looking at and may i ask what are you planning on monitoring and for what reason?

Interested

frayz - I have all the necessary computer hardware already built into the car. Instead of the stock double din headunit, i have an integrated 7" touchscreen in the dash. The cars entertainment system is basically run by WindowsXP via custom built user interface. Right, thats the techno speak done !!

Having OBD diagnostics seems a natural progression to this system. So i can monitor what ever i want essentially. I plan that whatever data you want to monitor will be integrated into the current software. ie, write my own !!

Plus as i previously said - IT LOOKS THE NUTS and is a good talking point. Most have to connect a laptop or similar, i just touch a few buttons and up comes all the data !!

On cold idle, my oil pressure is about 3.5 bar, once warm, it's around 2 - 2.5 bar (on idle)

Ah sorry !! Not sure yet on engine mods. Mine is only a year old. If i could afford anything worth doing, i would get the PPP first and then see where i go from there.
