Default Q's for the Bufty Boys

Probably should be in Car Care but there seems to be more Bufties here to ask

What's the best product to get rid of swirl marks on my black Scoob?? Which polish etc or should I be using a clay bar?? Or both

a clay bar ONLY removes surface contaminants. as for removing the swirls i would recommend reading the polished bliss website for some great info on how and which products...

Have had a look at the PB site but thought first hand experience of a particular product/application is always advantageous

Cheers

I used some Swissol Cleaner fluid followed by Swissol Wax and it gave my Black scoob a great finish and removed virtually all the marks and fine scratches.

Swissol is pretty expensive though, I purchased mine before I really knew what else was on offer, that said I have been very impressed with the finish it gives and I am very happy with it.

However, if you don't want to spend that much then I am sure Frayz can recommend some products with equally impressive results for a lot less.

This is the kit I got

Ask Frayz mate he might be able to help.......... while he's not around i'll help as best i can.

First off.. Swirls are caused by sponge washing, If youre still using a sponge and a single bucket then stop.. theres no point trying to sort swirls as one wash with a sponge will kill the car again.

Swirls are in your clearcoat and you will NOT remove them by hand.... (maybe in a tiny area but definitely not a whole car or even a whole panel)

You have 2 options..

A) Use a polish or product that contains fillers, these will help mask the swirls but will not remove them and the will be visible again after a wash or two.
AG Ultra deep shine is the publically available version of AG supreme polish and is very good at maksing swirls as it contains fillers. Getting yourself a decent glase will also help richen the paint. Clearkote red moose machine glaze is great for dark colours.

B) Prefered option. Get the car professionally machine polished. This will actually cut the swirls from the car and the paint wil be like glass. Your other problem is your car is a rally rep with lots of vinyl. This can make machine polishing a little more tricky than usual.

Not my car but this might give you an idea

Hope that helps

Any probs you have to ask Frayz

Cheers Fr...I mean BB, yep 2 buckets and mitt for me but yes I think the swirls are from washing with sponge (both me and previous owner). The only really noticeable panels are bonnet & roof so may be worth machining these. Also with the graphics on, the other panels are being masked to a degree but obviously wont machine these anyway...

I'll get "Frayz" to have a lookie and see what he thinks........

Cheers

The Swissol products although ivery expensive is very good, It contains alot of fillers and its these that mask the swirls.

Good kit if you wanna pay the money but personally id always go with removing rather than masking.

Check out Fozzies car at a meet mate, it always looks very nice indeed
