Aaahhh, Both. We have hard water down here and while boiling may take out the minerals you will still have some limescale floating around.
Of course, this being Scoobynet, someone will venture another opinion

Personally I would do it the other way round. Boil it like mad, then let it cool down and then filter it.
There is an argument that you don't need to bother and just fill it up from the tap but I wouldn't advocate that. Not with our hard water.
Also, Rinse the kettle through a few times and turn it upside down when emptying to get rid of any accumulated loose detritus

Boiling a kettle is only good if you are catching the Steam !
The water left in the kettle is now more concentrated because the pure water has evaporated !!!
Simple Chemistry
Well thats IIRC my Schooling

Catching steam from a kettle & condensing it on a cold surface & then collecting the said liquid is a bit tricky to say the least.Same idea as a moonshine still.
So as an alternative collect the water that drips from your ice cabinet in your fridge next time you defrost it.It is evaporated water from the moist things stored in your fridge so is reasonably pure.
Don't use the ice cubes that are in the freezer bit though as they are just tap water gone solid & they are better off being used to water down Barcardi.
