Default HELP PLEASE, mechanic wanted Pug

Whoops

Cam belt snapped on our little 106 GTi, poss bending every valve in it.

Good quote " the engines been making a whirry noise for a couple of days now" " then it just kind of stopped "

So can anyone recommend a reletively cheap mechanic, that would take this job on, the guy i use for bits and pieces seems to want a LOT of money just to look at the thing

Thanks a lot

seeing as though the head has got to come off, it would be a good time to port the chambers, freeing up some extra horses

Depending on clearances, you may of cracked the crowns on some pistons, mainly depending on the spped of the engine at the time the belt snapped, so you would be looking at a few valves, and a head gasket set at the least, which may cost a couple hundred quid in parts, though I'm not up on prices for the pugs

the head gasket set is around £50

The head needs to be stripped down to be checked for damage first before an accurate price can be given really

the engine was only at low speed, pulling away from lights.

Do the valves have to be brought as a whole set, this is what i fear may push the price sky high.

Any one you know for the labour mate?

I've tried mate

they can't get silkolene proboost.....yet
but I can get millers octane boost for around £2.70 a bottle

I'll have a chat with them and see if they would be interested in doing a deal for Millers oils for the club

Thanks guys, i was really sh!tting myself about this one, whats the first step then.

Should i start ringing around for parts, or is it best to let the guys in the know find out (You)

Just so's i can let her know, parts aside, if it can be resolved by just changing the head, how much time/money am i looking at for this, and what should i be expecting to pay for the head?

Cookie

P.S i promise to buy a bottle of octane boost of both of you when this is sorted

plus depending on the damage to the head after the head is removed its possable that the head is ok and just the valve need replacing wont know until the is removed could work out cheap for just parts and a few hours labour
