I have ESL for my 8S. To get the software/cable for £75 you need to buy the board at the same time as a package. And it's £75 plus VAT for the software/cable when bought with the board so it's really £90.

ESL is definitely the way to go especially for what it offers for the price. however dont make the mistake of buying this one second hand for more than the original new price. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Subaru-ESL...item20dbc52f35

I'm still mapping it, it's certainly a learning as you go job. My mapping was held up by a lot of mechanical issues with the boost control system.
You will also need to have a wideband AFR sensor and EGT sensor installed to monitor any changes you make. The ESL software can log everything else like boost pressure, waste gate duty cycle etc again which you will need to log and review to make sure everything is safe.
The best thing to do is read the ESL manual. Once you've finished, read it twice more to make sure you understand what everything does and how it works.

If you aren't comfortable with installing/understanding/using the above I'd advise you to go to a mapper and have it installed and set up.

This is not a live mappable board, despite the sellers claims. The v1.0 is a generic chip.
We do sell through ebay now, the official ones are sold through esl_performance and we have a new website with a shop imminent.

I'm sure I've seen on here that a few mappers supply and fit ESL for £600 all in? Unless you really want to understand it there seems little point doing it yourself as your only saving £150 odd plus it looks like you'll then need to buy other sensors as well.

Getting a pro would be my advise! I would if I could!
