Default FAULT CODE PO171

Hi all had my cars ecu read today and the above code came up
I have read it means it's over fueling / to much air in exhaust system
What could be causing this the mods I have are as follows also plan to map for the med next week
K&n panel filter
Sti top mount
Decated from 1st cat back
And a turbosmart DV which I'm removing once get hold of standard recirc
Any tips would be great
The ecu has been reset and light has not come back on after 20 miles

Many thanks in advance

it's not over fueling its running lean which = more air than fuel.

P0171 system too lean bank 1

Has this fault only occurred after fitting mods if so the car wont be setup for these so that car wont know what it's doing, I'd suggest going over all of the intake system pipework after the maf sensor and checking for potential vacuum leaks

The guy I brought it from said he had it switched off a week before I brought it after a garage looking it over and the day I viewed the car is was not on but when I picked the car up next day it was on he said he went on quite a long drive ( means use the fuel up lol )
So I'm a bit mift what it is I was thinking it was the decat causing the problem but now find out that the first cat is still in so really don't know I have checked all pipes ect can't find any leaks

Yeah, the VTA valves can cause rich and lean scenarios. Rich once you lift off the throttle when changing gear for example and lean when at cruising speed/load (off boost) as the BOV will be open and unmetered air can be induced through it.

Who's mapping it? Rollers or road? If it keeps acting up may be a a MAF. The mapper will be able to shed some light on it anyway.

Here is the difference between before Duncan mapped and after

Here is before

As you can see less than standard output very odd lol

But then Duncan done his bit and ......

A big change in the car all round and brilliant considering very subtle mods and a cat still fitted can't wait till jan/feb when I get the new turbo

Highly recommend Duncan at racedynamix great value and friendly service and a thank you to the other guys who name I did not get

One thing I have noticed now is that when I put my foot on the clutch coming upto roundabout or whatever revs drop right down to near stall then jump up to 800 it don't do this all the time but more than not any ideas anyone

Mate your a star it's driving me wild lol it's had this problem since I bought the car as you know.
checked code again this morning and reading po171 again I put £40 fuel which put my just under full tank and only done 144 miles and needs fuel again and I'm driving normal.
I'm sure it's something simple that I have missed
I'm free all day tomorrow or Thursday just let me know when suits you and if you want me to come to you or to me again thanks mate
