Default Autronic SMC ECU help needed!

Hi guys, I recently made the possible mistake of selling my Power FC to buy a mates Autronic SMC 1.99 PnP Ecu in a bid to finally go MAFless..

Its on a 4-plug classic, seems to be a 4 plug ECU and it came from another 4-plug classic, which it worked on. Mine's a 95 import, thats been upgraded everywhere but the management system (wiring/sensors) is as standard.

First thing I noticed was that the rad fans seemed to come on right away. The mate I bought it from said it did that with his car too. Secondly, there was no fuel pump running to prime the rails. Obviously it wouldnt start.

Went so far as to buy a laptop with serial port to hook it up to Autronics software. It didnt seem to recognise that there was an ECU there at all. I'm not bad with computers so i dont think there was an issue with hooking it up, but I'm always willing to be wrong.

Do I need to swap cam/crank signal (why would that affect fuel pump anyway) as my mate suggests? Do i need any other hardware to install this ecu or is it just plain f**ked?

I should have mentioned that she runs fine on the stock Z4 I still have. When I parked her up for a while she had a misfire, which turned out the other day to be a coilpack which had split almost in half...

If I could afford to keep buying more and more ECUs I wouldn't have a problem. Unfortunately I need to get this POS working if at all possible..

Was the ecu originally fitted to a UK car?

My point being, the cam/crank sensors and fuel pump are on different pins on a UK car opposed to the JDM car.

the early pre facelift impreza's had the same ecu pinouts weather it be uk or jdm, they only changed on the face lift models.

*****. There goes that potential solution then.. The other day my wrx decided that its not going to run the fuel pump on the z4 either now, so its possible that the ecu isn't to blame and it may be an immobilizer or wiring fault, but it'd be a helluva coincidence that it randomly started working again in the few mins it took me to swap the autronic for the z4...
