2.5XT Forester - misfire and check engine light flashing
Hi all,
New here, and relatively new to the car: A 2006 Forester 2.5XT (95k, manual box). Been driving fairly gently, in the main, and had no problems in the first few months of ownership. Generally quite pleased with the car.
Driving home a few days ago, and gave it a bit of throttle to make a light. Just reached the rev limiter before changing, and was treated to the malfunction indicator lamp flashing (a yellow outline of the engine) so pulled over. After a few seconds, it went out, so I continued. Driving again yesterday, it's been coming on more, initially only when accelerating harder, usually the light flashing rather than solid. The cruise control light also started flashing and it felt like it was misfiring - and not getting better if you pulled over and switched off / restarted the engine...
If it's related, there's also a bit of a knocky / rattly sound coming from what seems to be the right hand side of the engine bay since the original time the light came on - which wasn't there before.
Any ideas what this might be?
And also, would you guys recommend anyone in the Wokingham (RG41) region to look at it / diagnose / fix it?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew Wilde

Hi,
When has the spark plugs been changed? If it really is misfiring too old spark plugs could explain that problem. Maby you should check the engine fault codes to get on top of the problem. I have had trouble with CEL lights on bugeye imprezas and one time reason was bad wiring behind battery, there is lots of wires.. I recommend to get a diagnostic tools maby one of these http://www.scoobyworld.co.uk/catalog...f7b3eb65d46688 they are easy to use and if somethimes CEL light goes on you can see the rason right away.
With best regards,
Juha
