My98 ecu key coding?

My98 ecu key coding?
if i change the ecu in the 98 does it need coding to match my key? Im changing the 8s for a 6s to match the engine im putting in, engine and ecu are from the same donor car.
I dont think the immobiliser is a standard subaru one and no keypad in the glovebox.
I did it once with an old rover and wouldnt start until the ecu was matched up to the key.
Thanks

Do be aware though that the pinouts are different. If you are retaining the UK loom, then you need to swap the crank and cam pins and move the fuel pump pin on the ECU. The car will not start without these changes!
Also, make sure as well as that you bring over everything you need - including engine, injectors, MAF sensor and turbo, as they are all different between UK turbo and STi, and the car will not run correctly otherwise. The engine will start even with the UK parts and STi ecu, but it may not be safe to run on boost.

Thanks for the msg, i wasnt aware of the pinout differences, do you know where i might get the pin outs for both? i also wasnt aware the MAF was different. the turbo is a vf28, not a world away from a vf23 that the 6s is setup for. if its going to be a mega job ill put my 380cc injectors in the replacement engine and run the 8s until i remap it. ill put the 440s back in then.
Thanks
Thanks
