Default code reading

Can anyone please tell me what i need to buy, leads software ect, to check for fault codes ect on my laptop for my 1999 uk spec subaru impreza. Never done this before so please keep it easy lol

If there is, it's beneath the steering wheel.

If it's OBDII compliant, then a VAGCom cable from eBay and RomRaider / Learning View should give you access to fault codes etc.

As mentioned: yes there is, its not OBD compliant.The method I posted requires no additional equipment.
