Good afternoon all!

I have just sourced a 'spare' engine and the cam sprockets are completely out of wack! I am planning on stripping the engine completely down, however, with the timing belt already removed and the sprockets still on but not in the correct position, how would i go about lining these up correctly?

Would this have to be done once the bottom end has been split and i have access to the cam shafts?

Whenever I have changed the cambelt, only one of the camshafts is prone to rotate if you don't hold it lightly with a spanner, not a real issue. Line the crank up and turn each cam very lightly, best clockwise to avoid loosening the bolt or use the cam holding tool sold by Import Car Parts. If it goes clunk stop. I never used the tool but it would be easier as you can rotate both ways.

The crank pulley has a timing mark as do each pulley. Be carefull to compress the original tensioner upside down and very slowly unless you are using a new one which would be best if its an unknown age.
