Default Possible Pulley issue as not starting.

I have put this in this thread as possible best place for a solution. I have swopped a 2.5 which I know works fine into a 2005 WRX with original manifold loom. It turns over but won't fire with a very occasional muffled bang. The 2.5 ran on a Syvecs ecu but we are using the original factory ecu and mapping via carberry. My question is, the pulleys on the 2.5 are metal and the original Pulleys on the 2005 WRX are Bakerlite plastic, I think. The old WRX engine has been sold so I can't check 100% but it was standard. Are the metal pulleys the issue as they might give a different sensor output and do I need to go back to original pulleys or just change the pulley behind the can sensor. Are all crank pulleys the same. I should have opened the timing cover but never thought this might be an issue. Any solutions welcome and thanks in advance.

there are NO new-age cars that use 4x metal pulleys?? seems to me that was running in a classic and has pulleys suited to that

you need the correct main crank timing pulley ant matched cam pulleys to suit the new-age set-up......

It was in a 1999 WRX UK, and only has one metal pulley where the cam sensor is. I thought the 1999 WRX had a EJ205 designation and sensors would be compatable. I'll check early v later pulleys if I can find the link.
Does anyone know which pulley year this is.

there is your issue then as the trigger pattern for a 99/00 car is different to a new-age WRX............

either reconfigure your Syvecs or swap out the small crank pulley and cam pulleys for new-age ones
