its possible. If the new turbo makes more pressure than before. I assume your mechanic has done a compression test?

rings is very likely then. hopefully just the rings themselves and the pistons/bores are ok.

The new turbo, were you running more boost pressure than standard?

my car is mapped to stage 1 on the old turbo before it broke. So they just added the new turbo with the stage 1 mapping.

Did your mechanic say if your engine was down compression on one or all cylinders?

So your car was map checked/remapped after the new turbo?

Hi there. Nope the car was mapped on the old turbo so the mechanic just fitted the new turbo on it and we did not re mapp it again as they told me it will be fine without re mapping it. To be honsest the mechanic only told me he did a compressor test and there was no pressur and told me the rings went but just to let you know he did not strip my kar to confirm that

Hmm. Assuming your old and new turbo's are VNT then i'd be surprised if the same map from old would be good for new. Maybe its different for diesels but i'd still have been looking to do a map check at the very least.

but the only strange thing is I feel my Turbo has popped as this mechanic sounds like he does not have the purchase invoice for this so maybe he did not even repalce my turbo but repaired it

The first thing i thought of was blown oil seals in the turbo... That was before the mention of low compression.

I too would go with turbo failure. Broken rings make a lot of smoke but don't pump out oil so fast it makes marks on the road like yours.
The other possibility is a broken piston.
Get a compression test on all cylinders. 4 pistons or rings don't all break together.

a faulty oil pump could also be a contributing factor to the original and subsequent turbo failures on top of the low compression. Either way round if you get it sorted (repair or replace engine) make sure and get the oil pressure and map checked this time before you go horsing about in it.
