Default cheap bov

Yo people, my car has been mapped with a cheap dumpvalve on, would it be ok to get hold of a stock valve and change them over or will I have to keep a bov on saying as the cars been mapped that way?

yes - there is no "map for bov" on newage cars unless you go speed density and remove the MAF sensor. If your just a standard car mapped then you'll run better with the stock bov back on.

Ahh good, its mapped with full exhaust, k&n pannel, sti tmic, walbro fuel pump, 3 port boost solenoid and a cheap bov which was fitted by previous owner.

So long as the cheap bov wasn't leaking when the map was done you'll be grand. If it was then the now working bov might give you a little over boost but that's worst case scenario

What do you think my best option is? Keeping the cheap bov, buying a good bov or getting a hold of a standard valve?

Cheap bov is never the answer - doesn't matter what the question Is. Your pick between standard recirc or quality bov as either will do the job well. If you notice anything strange after fittings then you can stick your cheap one on again until you can have the map checked. 9 out of 10 cases you'll be grand and a good mapper would spot the leaky bov anyway.

It was evotune in co Durham who mapped it, they have good reviews. I might steer towards a good bov admitting I kinda like a tssssh when comming off throttle lol saying that tho my bov that's on now only dumps off on heavy boost and doesn't when driving normal or even when on light boost.

Ah, I thought they dump off whenever on boost, it seems mine only does when boosting hard like 14psi then letting off

nah my baileys one wouldn't go off under 12psi - doesn't do you any harm. What kind of cheap bov do you have, post a pic?

a previous owner lying about something? SURELY YOU ARE MISTAKEN SIR!

It kinda does look like a cheapy one tho:

Still if it's not leaky it's not leaky so I wouldn't worry just yet, is it definitely not leaking though or you just can't hear it. Thankfully you can see right into the piston so if you could find somewhere to cabletie your phone looking into it you can go for a drive and see if the piston starts to lift before you make big boost. Or if your really worried about it take your car to a garage that has a compression tester, then can inflate the manifold to 18psi and see if it starts opening.

Haha yeah he lied about alot of things but it turned out good on the end lol. I swapped my Leon cupra 180 for it he said it had mods on that I later found out it didn't, plus's it wasn't boosting well at all but he said he turned the boost down with a mbc. But I bought a few bits and had I had it mapped and its all good lol.. I have a boost gauge and it holds boost well, would the needle on the boost gauge start decending if it was leaking?

you'd be unlikely to spot it on the boost gauge to be honest unless your not paying carful attention to the road. But whoever mapped the car should have spotted it if that was the case.

Cable tie your phone in there looking into the trumpet - with the light on from the camera you should see if it's opening easily. Sounds daft but i've seen videos of it done before to rule things out.

Yeah suppose its worth a check, I think its fine tho, as you say a decent tuner would spot it, hopefully its not going to be on the car much longer, can you recommend a decent dump valve? Do you have the stock one on yours or is it still the baileys

went back to stock for me, with the open air filter I get pretty much the same sound with the stock recirc.

Forge and HKS both get good reviews, you can get them in full vent or 50/50 variants (some air is directed back into the intake to try and keep the ECU happy). Do some youtube searching or head to a local meet up and hear what other folks are using.

Also if buying second hand or on ebay beware of fakes:

Don't assume that a high price means your getting a genuine part.

yup - had to retune for it as the airflow scale was quite different from stock setup.

standard airbox with a panel filter and snorkel delete was grand though on the standard map.
