Fuel Choice and remap
I'm having my blob STI mapped tomorrow by ZEN performance and I'm looking for some advice on fuel selection, in the town I live the best fuel I can get is BP ultimate, I'd have to drive about 20 miles round trip to get v power.
Would there be a big difference between having the car mapped on BP ultimate and V power in driveability and outright power?
Thanks in advance guys

Just filled up with v power ready for tomorrow. Have to say I felt a definite difference in smoothness compared with bp ultimate. I'll just have to use vpower in future to suit the map!

V power only
BP, tesco only in an emergency only ever ran my cars on shell as above 20 miles away is a good sprint back fill up a few jerry cans and your sorted
V power was pricy (now down to 120p)where I am couldn't be happier

Old debate, but a a valid question.
V power hands down, tesco a not too far off second. Our engines love having the highest octane they can get- from both a performance and longevity standpoint.
I used to drive a bit out of my way for v power on both my cars, and trust me, its worth it. Yes you will be able to tell the difference on the dyno !
(But more importantly, check something Duncan's website he has a writeup on it )

this one:

and I would take maxol 95 over the BP ultimate we get in NI - the extra cost doesn't seem to justify the drop in timing compared to what I can run with Topaz or Go super.

its a curious one though, outwith subaru forums (can probably class all modern turbo vehicles in this) most tune for lowest ron fuel avaliable as saftey measure rather than try to get all you can out of it.

Yea, I set mine for healthy timing rather than aggressive, you can still make up for timing with a little boost etc and still come away with very good results, yes you could make another 5-10hp but really, unless its for bragging ultimate numbers or running quarter miles (which if the need ever arose, I can set the timing higher and fill the tank with the really good stuff), why bother?

not just a horsepower gain though, if you tune the map to take advantage of the higher octane fuel you can also get more MPG on a cruise too but if you have to drive 30 miles to get your super unleaded then it's probably not worth it.
better to do what brendy has done and have the car mapped for the fuel you use and be happy with the results.

I'm just going to go for a map to suit vpower and just fill up the whole tank rather than half as I usually do. Thanks for all the advice and input guys
