I don't know who's local to you though. I'm in Belfast lol. I fitted ESL to my 97 T2000 myself and am self mapping too.

97/8 ECUs are not remappable without ESL.

Firstly will this get rid of the silly limiter ( obviously for track day use only ) or would I need to install a converter on the cable as mechanical clocks not electric ? Secondly would this be preferable to say a apexi stand alone ecu ?

Yes it will get rid of the limiter. It is also MAFless, twin map, diagnostics, 3d boost control, knock control, Anti Lag, Flat shift, Launch Control and Traction control, none of which the Apexi has.

Way better than a power fc as Andy has said.
Power fc is all well and good but lacks so many features in comparison to a modern equivalent.
I'm using a power fc currently on my Ra just as i had one kicking around to get it up and running around again after i bought it with a dodgy engine.
Will be getting sold very soon to be replaced with an esl board from Andy

Now that what you call a list of great functions, and at the price is an absolute bargain. I am so looking forward to getting my hands on one as soon as my cam belt is done. (I don't suppose you do it on a monthly payment basis Andy? Lol)

Hmmm mixed feelings on this too, from my reading and advice the esl is a great way to map the early Impreza.
Please elaborate on flash mapping and fookin clueless?

ESL is a bolt on to the standard ecu, where as syvecs is a complete replacement unit. Its got more functions, more adjustability and more features, but you pay for that.

Flash map is just as it sounds, where a previously done map is just copied (flashed) into the current ecu. Some cars are fine done that way, subaru's are not, you can take a map from one car and put it on another and it will be so far out it could melt the engine. Basically it needs tailoring to each car. To do a proper map takes hours, not mins.

There are very very few mappers i would trust with my car, Pat Herborn being top of the list, andy who works with Pat, paul at Zen and andy forrest, beyond that i wouldn't trust any.

I know what you are saying Tidgy but when I say esl is the best ecu upgrade I am talking about upgrading the standard ecu, afaik esl is the best option for this. It come with the standard base map for the car I have and will allow me to do my own mapping and tweak the car to exactly how I want it. Surely pound for pound this will be my best option and will give me plenty of time to tweak in stages for any modifications I wish to make to the car in the future

Disregard Tidgy, he is a mine of misinformation.

ESL converts the stock ECU into a full live mappable aftermarket ECU with all the features you would expect. It has nothing to do with generic mapping.

The base map is the OEM map, they must then be tailor mapped to whatever your spec is. RaceDynamix, JGM and BRD are all mobile and will map it for you.

That's fair enough,I will however be taking the Motorsport package and lead with the software so I will keep topping up that piggy bank
Quick question... Can the Motorsport package be added at a later date? And if so how is this done? Cheers

Andy can I get this supplied with a custom map to my mods or do I just get it out the box with a basic map and then get Some one to custom map for me, either mobile or roller ?

I was having my 8s mapped with an esl fitted, all was going well until the wastegate washer gave up.
I'm now rebooked for the beginning of September for it to be finished.....hopefully!

and what precisily is miss information about it?

ESL is an additional bolt on daughter board for the ecu, since your using the existing ecu then its not a 'full' aftermarket ECU by very definition. or is it now a different bit of kit and you havn't told people?

Considering i said to use ESL if you want to simply map it then if thats miss information then better use something else instead, any recomendations?

It also doesn't have all the features of many of the full replacement aftermarket ECU's, or are you trying to say its got all the features of a syvecs? if so why arn't the top race cars using it?

Not sure where i said ESL was a generic map or not? clarky asked if they came premapped and i responded saying anyone preloading aka flash mapping is someone who is clueless and doesnt understand subaru's, do any of the top tuners go anywhere near flash mapping? ESL is a bit of electrical kit that allows mapping, not a map, or so you suply them with maps as well?

I'm not sure why you felt the need to have a pop, expecialy given what i said is 100% accurate and I said to use ESL.
