left foor braking

usually happens if you get manual drivers in automatic cars!!!
had a newbie on a funeral once, hit the brake instead of the non exsistant clutch, and skidded the hearse to a stop outside the crematorium
good set of slicks behind!!!!
in all honesty it because you dont ever have to use your left foot for finesse applications. with practice, i,m sure you could use it as efficiently as your right

Hah! At least it hasn't been vaped like the one from the gallery, lol
Anyway, your left foot is mainly used to operating the clutch; pushing the pedal right down. It naturally wants to do that with the brake too, hence nearly going through the windscreen...

You need to practise to develop the feel in your left foot - it is too used to just shoving the clutch pedal in and out. Best way is to drive an automatic with two feet for a while.

That is a good idea, and BTW SS i too have nearly thrown myself and a passenger through the windscreen when i felt like trying it.

its easy to do once you suss out how to do it, try practicing by lightly pressing your left foot on the brake when your driving, then when you get more practice use just your left foot for braking, once you've mastered that you can then move on to setting the car up for corners by left foot braking.

I would advise somewhere quiet to practice. Start by slowing the car in a straight line until you get the right feel. It will come eventually. On track days and fast road I find its second nature now and a lot safer to lfb in the right situation.

I've been trying for a good few years now.. There are two particular styles I use... Firstly gentle left foot braking round sweeping corners to add stability. and the second is to get a front wheel drive vehicle sideways.. Need an LSD for this one..
The second is a little more vigerous when the car's under a heavy cornering load. Quick jab on the pedal and the back end should pop out and you can drift out of a corner like a RWD car
Dont try this one at home lol

Heh, bringing back memories here. As Mart suggested, my first experience was bringing an automatic back from the garage - approaching a set of lights my left foot instinctively stepped down on the 'clutch'... end result I ground to a screeching halt about a hundred yards in front of the lights...
Left foot breaking's not all that bad tho once you're used to it. My first proper experience of it was in my old Nova - bit of a banger, don't even know if it had a working choke, but basically it used to conk out at every junction if it was wet & cold. Never got the knack of heel/toe so left foot breaking was the order of the day
Spent 2 years driving that car, amazing how natural it becomes :-D

I do it frequently in my GpN car, the servo is also non existant, so pedal is rock hard and more feel to it.
Very handy doing a rally, not really necessary on the road IMO, although i do ocassionally use it on the road.
Main reason you nearly hit the window SS is due to your foot not being used to pressing a sensitive pedal, with practice you'll master it.
comes as second nature when mastered.

left foot braking is very good for settling the car on fast corners and also you can develop boost on low speed corners by using the throttle and brake in a ballanced manner.
one word of warning on a road car.
use your left foot more than a couple of times without lifting and you will lose the vacum on the servo and your brake pedal will go hard.

To be honest there's not a huge point in left-foot braking. Yes it'll save you a couple of hundredths of a seconds time getting back on the throttle - but the main reason is for balance around corners - it allows you to adjust the brake-bias dynamically. More useful in e.g. a RWD car - applying throttle whilst braking effectively shifts brake bias forwards. It shifts it backwards in a FWD car. In a 4WD car like the scoob I'd anticipate less advantage since all four wheels are driven, so you're essentially just battling the brakes of all four corners so I don't think there'd be any real advantage over simply trail-braking for in-corner stability.
However it does look impressive. I've never done any left-foot braking (except for playing) myself, this is what I've been taught on the carlimits.com driver training course, however he has a DVD showing left-foot braking together with heel-and-toe, that is a sight to behold. Basically barrels into a corner, left foot brake, transfer right foot from gas to brake (with same pressure), move left foot to clutch, de-clutch, blip throttle with heel, move left foot back to brake and then right foot back over to gas to balance - really clever footwork - posing git
Sorry, I'll stop rambling now

What exactly is the purpose of left foot braking in the Impreza?
I'm a track day maniac, but when I try to use LFB all that happens is that the car slows down
