I'd be very interested in finding out as well. It always pays to be prepared for that faitfull day!
I always get really nervous about buying anything reconditioned. I once bought a box for my RS Turbo to find that the LSD was knackered and the bearings sounded louder than the ones in my knackered one. The guy new that the car was chipped and had no problem with this until it came to fixing the box again a week later!
I think the important thing is to find out exactly what is reconned in the unit and ask what impact any mods have on the waranty.
Cheers,
Rob

Midland Impreza offer rebuild engines fitted with some form of guarantee depending on your engine choice. Haven't used them for an engine myself, but looked like an option worthwhile investigating.

Stay well away from Midland Impreza. After rebuilding my engine they refused to fix the mis-fire as they said it wasn't their fault. In addition the engine almost siezed because they didn't do up the radiator hoses tight, and they forgot to earth the engine to the chassis after re-installing it. Total cowboys Remember you get what you pay for!

Alex a word of advice...My turbo seals failed while running my engine in after the rebuild. This was due to metal in the oil system when the bearing blew.
I reccomend getting the turbo checked by a reputable company (turbo technics) before running it in the engine. They can check it over for you and let you know if it is OK. I was given that advice but ignored it myself only for it to cost me another turbo.
