Can someone with an AE802 try this...

Drive along, 2nd gear and give it a constant light throttle to keep your speed at about 28mph or so. Then tell me if you can feel a slight 'surging' thing going on.
Had me scoob for 10 months now but have only just noticed this. I'm not sure if it's because I would rarely hold it at those revs and just haven't noticed, or another factor is involved (might just be down to the 802). On full throttle it's fine, and at steady cruise it's fine, but in the lower gears at part throttle is where you notice it.

Mine's doing this even after a 20-mile motorway journey.

As search is down I've not been able to find any posts on MAF failure, would this be a symptom?

I'd been using Optimax for a good while until a few weeks ago, and was caught low on fuel with no SUL available. Ran a tank of UL through it and have switched back to Optimax now, done about 110 miles on it and there was probably about 5 litres of UL in when I filled up.

I take it you run an MY00?
These are the normal symptoms for "surging/hesitation" which all MY00's do (except mine, prob cos its a PPP'd one ) but you could clean out all your pipes as that could be causing it (found it to be better after my wastegate pipe was cleaned by a dealer but then again i was suffering loss of boost up top )
Hope that helps
Tony
PS, you could also clean your boost solenoid and see if that helps too!

802's do have a tendancy to do this but Subaru won't admit it....
You could always get an EcuTek Tek1 as these apparently cure the problem (whilst giving you a few more horses )

I was planning on getting the Tek 1 at some point, but I didn't want to risk any warranty issues (not sure if Subaru can tell that it's been remapped or not )
I'm not mechanically inept but I don't know how to locate the wastegate pipes. I've heard of them being contaminated with oil or dirt before now, just need someone to explain where they are under the bonnet...

Whip, My MY00 is a PPP'd car so it doesnt seem to suffer the same (never did to start with ) but your welcome to try my old ecu if you wish its in a box somewhere gathering dust lol! or try to get hold of an MY99 ecu (800/801) as they are meant to sort this problem out too!

My -00 / 802 had this surging-hesitation behaviour also.
With TeK2 all of this is gone.
You can fit a TeK1 or 2 without voiding warranty, unless you tell someone, i mean, it wan't be detectable through the selectmonitor, just drop in the remapped ECU in your original box. I think they even program the correct ID corresponding to your label into the ECU, making it impossible to see. It's the original but with different maps only.

Mine surges but only when cold for the first 5 mins or so. I've tried 3 different ECUs 801's/2's and they are all the same. It's never done it when hot.
Strange thing is that when I first changed to an 801 from 802 the problem dissapered completely (this was when the weather was colder though) now it has returned with the 801's.
I've got those speed bumps around the roads where I live and it is a bit irritating in the mornings, as it keeps me in the 'band' where it does it most.

This Tek 1 is starting to sound pretty tempting. Already 'sold' the idea to my better half, on the basis that it will improve fuel economy.

Richard,
on top of the ecu it has a green lable, this lable says something like Y7 (well my old one does) and under that it says 22611 AE802 this is where the 802 comes from
Tony
PS, there aint much on the top of the ecu so its not hard to miss

Let the record show that I have fitted an AE800 in my MY00 and it has made NO difference whatsoever to the cold hesitation issue. Mind you it ain't that bad on my car anyway, irrespective of the ECU I have in.
Performance however with the AE800 is vastly improved .

Oops, just read Tony's posts as I was typing that out.
What ECU are you running Tony? I will see how it goes on the way home this evening and decide whether I'm just being overly paranoid, cheers for the offer m8.
I reckon my mind has been put at rest now, that I'm just experiencing the MY00 'hesitation', but it would seem to be more noticeable on UL and SUL.
Edited to say I noticed the low-boost emissions thingy yesterday.

Hi,
Can someone describe where the wastegate pipe and boost solonoid are for me and how to clean them?
Ta!
Richard
Oh yeah, and how do I tell if my MY00 has the 801 or 802 ecu??
