The UK Euro spec MY99/00 cars don't have an intake temperature sensor like the Japanese spec STIs.

Can one be fitted to a UK/ Euro spec car? And does anyone know if the wiring for one of these, is already in the wiring loom so as it communicates with the ECU and then can be monitoredby Delta dash?

The intake temp sensor on the STi is before the turbo and intercooler and has no input into the ECU mapping although the facility is there - you want a sensor after the intercooler, and there is nothing in the wiring loom to attach to - just run your own through the fire wall to arrive under the glovebox most thermocouples come with 2m cable which is plenty.

I was just visiting the EcuTek site and read that, the intake temp sensor will not give an indication of charge temperature, and so is not particularly useful, just like what you said. I was going to write, disregard the questions, but you beet me to it.

Forgive me for being thick, but for a sensor after the intercooler, after you'd bring in the wire from the firewall and under the glovebox where does it go to then? To a seperate gauge?

Yes.
there are many ways of fitting the sensor. I have drilled and tapped the throttle end of the intercooler near the dump valve, which works well. Pass the cable through the bulkhead (firewall) then on to a quality gauge. I have used a SPA dual gauge which displays boost and temperature. The pressure sensor is electrical so you can run the cable via the same route as the temp. sensor.
I can thoroughly recommend these devices!

Alternatively loosen the jubilee clip at the outlet of the intercooler and angle the thermocouple tip so it is in the airflow, but not so far that your throttle sticks open - it has happened!

Hmm, what does the std STI ECU then use to determine charge air temp? Is there a temp sensor in the manifold?

I think the inlet temp is the inlet well before the turbo. It doesn't seem to know the charge temperature just like most Scooby ECUs don't. Perhaps it might be nice if it did in Singapore! Don't know about the new age models.

My Autronic ECU on my old GC had to have a sensor installed in the intercooler (just before the tube to the throttle body) to read charge air temps.
Guess this would mean that the std ECU doesn't take info from such a sensor, or else why would Autronic bother with the above.

Stephen Done was looking at the V5/6/P1 code and found a map for temperature compensation using the installed sensor (which I thought was pre-turbo but happy to be wrong!), but the map was disabled and unused. I was under the impression that the sensor was well away from the turbo in the OEM position.

If the above is correct it should not be beyond possiblity to write a map for the intake temperature and if necessary relocate the sensor to a more useful site but using the original wiring loom?

On the Ecutek demo there is a P1 sample and it has an intake temperature value, but the data seems a bit weird - I don't know if it is a real log or not, but on the UK models this option for intake temp disappears.

I would swear that my DD software had an air intake temp setting when plugged into my car. I'll double check next time I put it on the car.....

Cheers fellas, some good info here. Hope something can get sorted. It would be good if we can get it into the original wiring loom, which would be read buy the ECU and then the Delta Dash. If there is an option, (wiring), on the UK Euro spec cars, it could be possible. I already have a boost gauge, knocklink, turbo timer, and a boost controller in the cabin. I'm running out of room for more gauges. I want to save the centre storage compartment for the Delta in car dash when it comes out.

Sti's fitted with the sensor use it for ambient temp compensation for fueling, there is no charge temp compensation. Link uses it in the same way as does Motec, Pectel etc if the relevent channnels are enabled. the maps are present in the ecu's fitted to cars without the sensor but, as mentioned, they are then disabled.
