can a boost gauge break?
#2
had a mechanical boost gauge for a few months now since i installed the dawes, i was running 14 psi on the gauge, but just noticed that its reading 11 psi now and this morning it was reading 9 psi, the thing is theres no loss of power that i can tell of.
can the gauge break or is there something else i'm missing, i.e. split hose or something?

yeah if your boost gauge has been in andy - cossie converts car it will break with the amount of boost he runs
Seriously though it can break.. try someone elses ... Hose could have a tiny split in it which only shows when under pressure... hows the car driving?

They can break - my gauge became noisy, when I removed it from the car there was something rattling around inside it. Something has either broken off or become loose. It's gone back to Demon Tweeks for replacement or repair under warranty.

it returns to 0 when the car is turned off, and it doesn't feel like i've lost any power.
if it doesn't rain tomorrow i'll have a look

right, i've taken it apart and.....
a) there's nothing broken or leaking inside
b) and no splits in any of the tubing
it still won't go above 11psi, but there's no loss of power (running 14psi)

Not so sure it's still not the gauge cause both on boost and in vacuum you say it is reading less than it used to.
If there is anyone local to you that can lend you a known good gauge, try that and see what you get.
If that shows 11psi....well.....

Hi Flat 4,
I've got a Phantom boost guage that I haven't got round to fitting yet. If you want to borrow it to try, you're welcome
(edited to say - don't suppose you could fit it in my car for me when you've finished with it could you???

Just measured it and it seems to be more like 3/8" bsp, although there appears to be a reducer on it which could well take it down to 1/8". Not sure about the tapered bit though.
You are welcome to come over and check it out. (I'm in Findern)

fixed it
tried one last go at fixing it by bending the curved tube inside which moves as the vacuum/boost increases, it seems that this had got moved or bent somehow and made it harder for the vacuum to bend it and read on the gauge
i've re-adjusted it by altering my boost till it hit the fuel cut and then altered the gauge to read 15psi at fuel cut, which it was hitting when i first altered my boost when the gauge was new
