MAF failure??
Hi,
MY00, Sweden
After washing my car yesterday the 'check engine' light
came on, and the ECU runs in chicken mode, atleast i think it does because it only runs on idle and below 4k and engine cuts as soon as i floor it.
Coincidence or...the fact that i've been running with the K/N induction kit for 3 weeks, from
what i've heared, this kit should give no problems at all with the MAF.
Any clues?

Could be the MAF but could be almost anything. Once the ECU detects an essential sensor has gone down, it goes into what you're experiencing known as "Limp Home Mode".
Get it to a dealer and they will plug in the Select Monitor which will tell you what the ECU thinks is wrong. Alernatives to that are plug in the wires under the dash and count the flashes, or use the Delta Dash software to tell you what's wrong.
Having said that, you may as well take it to the dealer 'cos you're going to need to replace whatever part is buggered. Hope it's not the MAF 'cos they are expensive

23 is the MAF sensor.
You MIGHT be able to resurrect the MAF sensor by squirting evaporative brake cleaner onto it (do this off the car you don't want break cleaner in the intake!) If not it is a replacement - in the UK they are about 300 GBP.
It is quite easy to replace the MAF sensor if you are confident - just needs simple hand tools - will save you excessive dealer labour charges.
Vibration, shock or particle contamination are the prime culprits. You might be better going back to the airbox - you may as well do it when you replace the MAF sensor.
I sold my K&N after a few months for £50. Thankfully before my MAF went. However, my nice disks have just cracked so I know how you feel

Thank you John...
I'll try to clean it...however i'm to fast, i've already switched back to original box...but, i'll give it a try. I tried to see any contamination but did not detect anything obvious...
someone wan't to buy an almost new K/N 57i kit? :-)
it's very cheap...

Try a reset, but usually if there is a fault and you fix it without a reset the check engine light goes off but the fault is stored as historical in the ECU. Probably a new MAF sensor - definitely if it does not go with a reset.
I just tried resetting, i connected both the green and black pair and started the engine..
Light still on, so i guess it's payday...
How typical, i'll bet my hat that the TeK2 box is arriving on Monday, and i have to wait like the whole week for a new MAF, i'm going to climb the friggin walls
