Default Engine sounds like a diesel/tappety

Hi guys, i have an 06 wrx and have recently noticed that after i have been out in the car and come back it sometimes seems to sound what i can describe as a bit tappety or a bit like a diesel.

The car is currently about 500 mile from a service and has 5/30 oil in it and i have got a new 5l of 5/30 to put in it but any help would be good or even if it is just to tell me that it is just me??

Ta

I did think that and that is why i mentioned it in the thread. I have only had the car about 3 months but i have bought 5/40 from oilman and the plan is mot and service next week so hopefully that will cure the problem.

Cheers for the reply

Are you sure oilman recommended 5-40 for your car? Are you sure it wasn't 15-40. Still think 5-40 is way off.

To be fair the noise isn't that bad just i notice it lol. Also looking at the reciepts and service book etc i don't think it has had an oil change in the last 10,000 miles or at least not a documented one so fingers crossed some fresh oil and service will cure this problem

FWIW 5/30 is the recommended weight for 2.5's in the owners manual. For me I'd go with 10/40 or 15/50

15/50 in my classic and 10/40 in my newage. Gonna try 15/50 next time in the newage as I notice RCMS run 15/50 in their service schedule, although most specialists run 10/40 for normal newage application

Bit of a long shot but had a rattle/tap noise in mine coming from the engine bay. Found out after changing the up-pipe that the cat had broken its weld in the up-pipe. So new de-cated pipe fitted and problem solved.

Took it to a garage bud so not sure if they did that or not. Is it a massive issue if they never??

Well some on here would say so! It's not an official procedure from Subaru, but some people have had major issues a few 100 miles after an oil change, and the theory relates back to the oil change procedure!

Should be fine though
