Help - 95 WRX Limiting at 4000 rpm
#1
Help I have not had my 95 WRX for long and i am pretty new to turbo cars. Here's my problem I am running the car on super unleaded, First couple of days everything was fine running and performing like a dream, then today the car is doing something very strange. When accelerating through 1st & 2nd gears the car is normal, then though 3rd, 4th and 5th the acceleration goes up to 4000 rpm then struggles, after that the car seems to limit, the powers there but there’s no great acceleration, as there was before the problem.
Any help would be great!!
Regards

If the Speedo's stopped working as well, the car's ECU is going into 'Limp Home Mode' and throw up the Check Engine light as well :-(
Chances are the Speedo cable is broken, just above the fitting at the gearbox is favourite. Theres a choice of 3 different part No#'s If you can find an import friendly Dealer approx £35

It might be something that happened to my car a while back.
There is a gear sensor and sometimes it goes pop, therefore it causes cutout at 4000rpm, rather like limp home mode as already somebody mentioned above.
Can take a while to diagnose as it's not very common.
I've had it happen twice with a specific type of speedo convertor, but not once since I got an official MPH speedo :-)

If it's so intermitent it may not get logged in the ECU, but it's worth a try. Reset the ECU to clear any old fault codes, and drive the car. Once it plays up check the error code if any. Best description I can lay my hands on recently is: http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co.uk/Scooby%20Page/ECU%20Diag%20Page.htm
Nothing to do with me, but top marks to the guy who owns it.
