New Noise after fitting ITG
#1
I just fitted a new ITG filter and I now have a rather loud, groaning type noise, generally if holding on to the revs in any gear, like at 80 on the motorway. Goes away when if I push or release the pedal. I've checked and re-checked and it's seated fine.
Long shot I know - help anybody ?
MY97 btw

Hi Leigh,
Just fitted an ITG filter to my MY99 RB5 during lunch. I haven't noticed any odd sounds. It was a barsteward to fit and ended up dismantling some of the hosing to get a good look.
Did you do the same, or just unlock - fit - and re-lock?
Could you have left any hoses off the car after fitting?
What type of noise is it? does it sound like somethings loose or rattling around in the engine bay?

Did you check all the way around the box to see if the covers fitted securely. I had a nightmare getting the bottom part to fit with the new filter.
Eventually discovered that it was best to push it into the top cover and fit the whole thing. I was trying to push it into the bottom part, then had no luck fitting the cover back; the bottom just would lock down.
Also noticed on the pipe from the box that there's a little bleed nipple or something underneath. Is that secure?

Cheers Ozzy,
I've got the old paper one, I stick in back in later and see. I did remove the big hose, but it's back to how it was. I've not lost any power. It's the "blowing over bottle top" noise, but louder. Thinking about it, it could be that, just louder due to the extra air being feed ?

Not relevant I know (soz), but since you're on the subject.
I've just taken delivery of an ITG (cheers performanceexhausts.net). But I'm such a bloody novice, I don't know where to stick it under the bonnet.
Can you tell me where it goes please?
Thx!

It's either that or air escaping somewhere. Defo no hoses loose?
I'll check mine on the way home tonight and let you know if I get the same noise. Didn't on the blast down to the Gym @ lunchtime.

Sorry, don't have the digicam with me or I'd have posted some pics.
There should be a large black air box in the left-hand side of the engine bay. There's a large black hose running off it to the engine.
Just unlock the two metal clips and the top cover should loosen enough to slide the old filter out and the new one in.
I loosened some of the tubing above the box and the MAF connector to get better access.

Leigh beat me too it.
You should notice a new noise with the Downpipe Which one are you going for? have you changed the centre too?
I've a PPP backbox and should have a PPP centre fitted in the next couple of days (fingers crossed).

Ozzy,
I've got the TSL downpipe, centre is staying as standard (I bet I change my mind tomorrow!!) and I've got the Scoobysport back box already on. Mid sections can be had for £90, so I'll probably get one anyway, in for a penny!

Leigh,
I must admit to hearing a low grumble when using the loud pedal - I think. Maybe I'm just hearing things, but I don't remember noticing it before. Although, I was trying hard to hear something over the rain & thunder on the drive back home.
It certainly doesn't sound like there's something wrong, just a bit more of a low growl when applying some throttle.
Is that what your hearing?
Stefan

Ozzy,
I found out last night, that after all, I hadn't fitted the air box properly on the bottom edge. Problem gone away. Thanks for you help m8. The grumble is a little more noticable, which is nice. Downpipe going on soon!
Cheers,
Leigh
