Hi there,

Anyone have any experience of changing pistons on the EJ20 motor?

I understand there are blanking plates that can be removed to get access to the pistons, drive out the pin and fit new ones from top of the cyclinder head.

Anyone done it? I assume it is an engine out job?

On a newish undamaged engine could you drop new pistons in without honing the bore?

Any comments welcome!

You need to put a cross hatch on the bores to bed your rings in, Garason will sell you a glaze buster for under £20, or our selfs or any other engine builder will do it for you for similer money. For about £50 you can get a carburundime balled, as i call it bog brush which are great, your bore is 92mm, so you will want a 95mm bog brush put some clean rag at the bottom of the bore to stop any muck getting in side the crank case, lightly oil bore 25 strokes up and down and your done. keeping everything spotless and 100% clean is a must!!!!!!. If you want a bog brush mail me and i will give you a phone number and a part number, we use a diamond hone to do it properly but engine must be striped for this process.
