Default new clutch in, judder and smells!

hey all, just had my clutch done yesterday, exedy stage one and competition clutch lightened flywheel. garage said that judder would be there till they have matched together, is it likely to go away? and also on incline starts the clutch smells,
is this normal and going to go away?
cheers, shawn.

I've done about 3k, not much has changed tbh.

The only way to stop it juddering is to get the clutch hot, I guess it cleans the pickup off the flywheel for a while, Not really a cure though as it reverts back after a day or so.

Couple of hard launches should clear the crap off, and helps with judder.

Dont think there is a bedding in period

The exedy if it's not the APi version will judder and smell, especially in reverse, may I suggest a strong air-freshner?

I had the Pink 230 Exedy and it's not smelly or juddery The combo of the clutch and 6.3kg billet flywheel have made the deceleration much noisier though.

Yello i've fitted loads of exedy clutchs to imprezas and never had 1 judder I've always found the spigot bearing in the flywheel goosed which is the main coarse of the judder,so everyone 1 gets a spigot bearing replaced now with a new clutch and they only about £10

Nope, not that has appeared on this forum. As I keep saying 172 sport seems to be the only voice that the actual owner of the alleged juddering clutch speaks with.

The owner himself has never contacted me about a judder, or appeared on a forum or asked me to do anything about it.

If it is a genuine faulty clutch it could be changed under guarantee; given some simple certain conditions about use and abuse.

There is history there on that transaction and 172 is concerned only with stirring it up every chance he gets.

My standard 01 plate with 68000 miles judders very badly from cold but seems to cure itself after a few miles of warming up. I raised this on the site last week and I think the problem is just part of the design I'm afraid...

Simply not the case, I couldnt be bothered to stir.

Now stating the facts,

Which, If you care to pop down this way, you can do a back to back with a Aztec pink box version and your own branded version.

I'm sure conclusion will be, they both judder, with yours doing it to a lesser amount.

Exedy UK now do an uprated anti-judder friction plate, which we supply with 5 speed kits:

AZTEC PERFORMANCE ONLINE STORE - WHOLESALE PRICES DIRECT TO THE PUBLIC - Clutches & Lightweight Flywheels :: Subaru Impreza :: Exedy Uprated Organic Racing Clutch Kit - Pink Box - Anti-Judder - 5 Speed

The old/original Exedy uprated friction plate can judder.

mines been in 12months and about 15000miles judders like firk on down change unless you blip the throttle or are very agressive with the change , its the 4 paddle version and in that time has not been abused at all . it is now at the very top of the pedal and feels like it slips a bit under full load in 4th but only for a few seconds then bites and stops . sujestions please is it knackered or is it the clutch slave cylinder going lazy as has been sujested ??? it had a lightened and balanced refaced flywheel fitted at the same time

I have a Exedy clutch, bought the car with it. Its about a year old. Car is never driven really hard, and i never rag it in first at all. Have not had any judder whatsoever. Also its my 4th Impreza, and all the previous ones had it.

Quick Reply: new clutch in, judder and smells!
