best auto gearbox oil for an 95 jap impreza plz
Hi all got my first impreza and got gearbox problems and i would first like to try and see if topping up the oil on her works before taking the box out long shot i know but on inspection it is just below the cold mark,oil is red and dont smell burnt but do i just top it up or do i need to change it and is there a best type to use,and where does it go is there some where to top it up? any info on these would be great as want to get her working properly before i do any damage. many thanks. Any Dextron3 rated ATF will be fine.
They hold a fair bit of oil - I think it's between 8 and 9 litres from memory.
A topup should be fine - It needs to be filled through the dipstick on the passenger side of the engine bay.
ATF level should be checked with the motor running
Don't forget, that the front differential is filled with oil seperately - The dipstick is on the driver's side of the motor, at the front of the box - I think this holds approx 1Ltr, but please check the oil volumes for yourself, as i can't remember exactly how much. - Use a regular gearbox oil for the front diff. - 75/90 should be fine.

cheers i was thinking bout topping up though where the dipstick goes but didnt want 2 risk it ill do that in the morn thanks i forgot bout the front diff as well i will check that out at the same time thanks again. if this sorts my other prob out ill be well happy.
