Question

I have recently fitted a full decat system to my car along with an ITG Panel filter and have noticed that when I start the car up there is often a bit of blue smoke coming out for the first couple of minutes (The car is just over 1 year old!) and wondered if someone could let me know if this is likely to be a problem with the car or just a bit of crap being cleared out due to the freer flowing exhaust?

Also, since the mods, I have noticed that when accelerating hard and then backing off sharply at high revs. the car seems to jerk forward a bit, is this overboosting?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Si

I think in a one year old car the most likely cause of smoke on starting is frying the turbo seals. If this is the case monitor oil levels very carefully. You seem to be a regular at scoobynet so you probably idle the car to let the turbo cool down, but does your girlfriend?

Don't really have sugesstion about jerkiness but what about a dump valve probelm?

Thanks mate,

I have needed to top up the oil a bit lately so you could be right . Any idea how I can confirm whether or not the problem is the turbo seals? The car is due for service soon so would it be picked up then?

As far as the girlfriend is concerned her she is given a detialed list of do's and don't's when using my pride and joy! She also gets a similar list when she uses the car

Turbo failures do happen so I am sure the dealer will be experienced and diagnose it in no time (if it is the case). Its lucky the car is decatted because they might have already been damaged. Are you going to have to put the cats back on for the dealer warranty? If so get it towed to them or risk destroying the cats.

When my turbo seals failed I used 3/4 of a tank of oil in 70 miles (I only saw the oil when the engine was cold). Luckily my STI was fully decatted at the time.

Think I will probably run my car in to the dealer anyway as you say and get them to check the exhaust fumes.

Cheers
