Default poor acceleration???/ slowing down

Hi there, i have a 98 2.0 awd sport.
Can someone please advise. on occassion when being driven forward the car seems to have trouble pulling smoothly, when the car is then being driven and neutral selected to allow car to coast it seems as if the brakes are being applied and the car starts to pull up/slow down and not free wheel/coast properly. It does not always do this but is starting to do it more often.

Also i don't know if it should do this but when stopped on a slight hill the car holds itself from rolling backwards without handbrake being applied, but as soon as throttle applied it stops holding the car. It has always done this.

I hope someone can offer some assistance.

Default update/clarification

Hi there,
Sorry i did not make the symptons clear.

The fault is intermittent and can occur mid drive without hand brake being touched.

Also on gentle slope with the car in gear but the clutch depressed the vehicle holds without the parking brake needing to be applied. If i then depress the accelerator the car rolls back freely. This is all without touching the park brake. Clutch does not drag causing the hold.

The hand brake is fine.

Hope this helps with diagnosis.

Most likely a sticking piston in the caliper.

Funnily enough I have the same problem.

On a Hill without using the brake or handbrake/ car stays perfectly still. However if I depress the clutch the car is free to roll. I'm going to have it checked out as I think there is a sticking piston somewhere.

Seems to only happen when clutch is dipped.
