Anyone gone from PPP ecu to Link
#1
As the topic says. Has anyone gone from PPP to Link and if so how much benefit is there in doing so?
I am aware of the advantages of a tuned ecu but practically how much difference is there in performance? Is fuel cut rasied and boost with the link? I also heard that a change of air filter to perhaps a K&N would optimise things but would i really need it? Or would the standard one be ok.
I am asking these questions to get a feel if spending the money is justified by the increase in performance with a link compared to PPP.
I am off now to look at some dyno charts.
Cheers
Paul
P.S. If I did do it would ppl recomend i sell the ppp ecu or keep it for resale with the car? As I have the certs etc. It did cost a lot of money to start with after all.

Paul,
Plantie is in the process of doing it on his RB5 WR, Link gets fitted first week of May.
I think the performance increases aren't that much above a decat PPP but when you add things like new turbo thats when it comes into its own.
Cheers

Yeah i spoke to plantie yesterday, which is how this all started lol. I'll mail him off list.
I'll ring BRD tomorrow but I want to be prepared for my conversation. I know the PPP fuels a lot at high revs and the link can lean this out a bit and convert it into power but how much will I notice the difference. The reason I was questioning the air filter is I would have to declare it on my insurance whereas the 15% increase in performance through manafacturer I probably wouldnt. This statement seems to cover a lot on my insurance which is what the ppp was put down to.
Cheers

I am not entirely convinced yet that a Link car on the original turbo and intercooler is substantially better than PPP + Dawes, but this setup is a little rich at the top end (9% CO). Or for that matter better than a std ECU with a boost controller, or std ECU with a fuel cut lift and new restrictor. Just my opinion, but I am not spending £1500 to change unless I were to change the turbo, but that will just start eating gearboxes.

i hear you john, I read the other threads you contributed re link on with interest.
My main thought was having the car optimally tuned for its current mods and the benefit of taking full potential of future mods. But I am held back by the outlay of cash I have already spent on ppp. Oh hindsight.

I'm with JB on this one Unless you are aiming for mega power then, IMHO, the expense of any aftermarket ECU is hard to justify.
My gearbox will be requiring an upgrade way before my ECU.
I think PE's er, I mean EcuTec's offerings may be the best option.
Once they build up some data then there is no reason why your standard JECS can't be reprogrammed to run with any turbo, injector or breathing mod.
The standard ECU is an amazing piece of kit, don't underestimate it's capabilities

so the ppp ecu can be remapped by ecutech? Stephen did mail with the option of ecutech so i'll mail him tomorrow to find out more details.
The standard gear box is ok upto what torque

I'm not sure if they will tackle your ECU yet. What I mean is that within a few months I would expect the range of options will expand.
It may be worth taking a gamble and selling your PPP now while it's still worth good money ? If Ecutec come through with more options....winner if not, then you were going to get a link anyway
In the mean time you could fit a Dawes and get decent power from the std ECU.......Just a thought !
Re gearbox torque, it's difficult to quantify Some have broken with 270lbft and some are still living with 300+ Driving style has a lot of influence. Uprated clutches are the biggest killer apparently !

Ecutek will do a custom map for a fraction of the price of a Link, the standard Ecu is a much better piece of kit than a Link, given the money and time Subaru have invested...
Stephen from Ecutek even has a PPP type map that can be flashed to your Ecu, or tailoured to your requirements on the rolling road.
If anyones interested I can send you the data log that he collects an analyses whilst working on your car, just a bit more comprehensive than a Knock and Lamda gauge !!!
One happy customer

Will send it tomorrow chaps as the disk is at home. Its a data log in .CSV format.
My car is a my00 that had the upgrade carried out taking me from 234bhp to 268bhp, its not Steves performance map as you will be able to see he has not changed and boost.
