Question

As I'm reading most of the threads about Dawes, I always wonder if most of users go for the normal or the Full race version.

A last question : is the Deluxe version worth the pin ?

Hope to see some of you in the next French Meeting (more than 100 GT, WRXes and STI) 22-23 June at La Chatre

i got the full race version and no complaints.
i assume that most of us have only got one Dawes, hence no comparisons and few replies.
you might get more luck on www.i-club.com

Question

Hi,

I've got an MY00 and am getting a Dawes this week ... I thought about the full race version (spools up even quicker by .3 of a second, lighter and stronger), but, the Dawes threads I've read have all been based around the standard.

Judging by John Banks's (he's worked very hard on this and written tuns about it) experiences, you need to modify it a bit if your fitting to a 99/2000 car - drill hole to 1.5mm, from .5mm original and fit a restrictor valve. If your car is older, the standard .5mm hole should be OK. The reason for this requirement is overly sensitive throttle response to get max boost. The larger hole and restrictor valve help control this.

So, I would guess that if the race version spools up quicker, the throttle response would be even more fierce ... just a hunch, but seems logical.

I'm getting the standard as a result, though the extra strength, etc of the race version is attractive, but I feel with all the discussion and clear fitting and control guidlines from fellow Scooby owners being on the Standard, it's the safer more tested option ..

Just my opinion all this of course!

You don't need the restrictor valve. I recommend the 1.5mm hole on any 98 onwards Impreza. Do not fit to P1 or STi or Jap models IMHO unless you have a car full of monitoring equipment - see the FAQ for detailed reasons.

I don't understand how the Race version can spool up quicker as the ball sits on its seat until near to target boost with both versions. So it is more to stop the peaks that the Race version might be useful, but I haven't tried one. I can only think it is hocus-pocus or placebo that it should spool up quicker but happy to be corrected. Got to give the rich ones something to throw their money at Better save your cash and buy a Knocklink or air fuel ratio display IMHO. Or octane booster. Or new brake pads etc which will soon be required with a Dawes!

Is the AFM, the same as a Lambdalink ? Has it got more flashing lights ?

Worried me about the restrictor.

Thumbs down

I didn't fit a restrictor valve on mine ? Should I have ?

Cheers Phill C

PS I got the delux, but did use the extra bit. John advised on the standard one when I spoke to him.

John,

I got the impression that the restictor valve helped control the overboost and ''Mad Throttle'' on cornering, etc ... but looking again at one of your threads, I guess the 1.5mm hole on an MY00 effectively does the same job, so no need for the restrictor, just the larger hole.

That's good ... less work and quicker fun!

Steve
