What Oil??????
Can anyone out there help please...... I have just bought a '98 5 door Impreza Turbo and want to do an oil change, what is the best type of oil to use? I've been told Mobil 1 Motorsport is the best, anyone have any views?
Why is a 0/40 too thin for a Scooby engine? Pray tell me.
The best form of lubricant for an engine would be water, but you cannot get enough of it to the bearing surface and heat causes it to boil. So we dont get free engine lube. If molecular engineers (bio chemists) make this stuff for high performance engines then it is for a very good reason - and it aint too "thin". Go learn about viscosity and molecular science. Then tell us its too "thin"!

Brake Neck,
Read these threads which will explain why a zero based oil is too thin for a scoob engine. They talk about bigend failure and then go on to talk about oils and what should be used. Some of the best techies have posted in these threads. Oh you'll need a good hour.

The old saying is "A LOT of thin oil is better than a LITTLE thick oil" But then again I suppose a LOT of thick oil could be pretty good too? Why is it then that the petrochemical companies are making more and more thin oils in response to the requirements of the car manufacturers who are extending their service intervals to 10-12000 miles or more? (other than just for fuel economy)
