vf34/vf35 compared to a td04
i got a very strange question
the standard bugeye wrx has the td04 16g?(correct me if i'm wrong)
and it spools in about 3k revs(well it feels like it on mine anyway)
between the vf34 and vf35 which one gives more power but would drive and spool better or similar to my wrx's turbo.
and it seems like the vf35 is alot cheaper than the vf34 ...why?
are they both standard bolt-ons for this car too?
and i believe the vf35 are from the 05+ sti
and the vf34 from?.........

The VF35 is my turbo of choice for a relatively low mod WRX.
With a well specced set-up the VF35 can spool just as well as a TD04 equipped WRX yet go on to make power well past the point that the TD04 has run out of puff.
The TD05-16G will make around the same power as the VF35 but will be harder hitting.
The VF34 will make more power than the VF35 but has a higher boost threshold.

what power does the vf35 output standard?
edited to add..
just curious. is it possible to run a big turbo alongside the td04 ..for twin turbo
or is it too big of a job

Vast investment for little return, imho.
Mapping would be a nightmare.
VF35 produces 265 bhp on a new-age STI, mine managed 1.7 bar and 340 bhp with the usual mods. Now on a classic and doing about 330 bhp.

mine have been mapped and is producing 268bhp
vf35's are around the £250 mark... is it a decent investment?

Have a look at my profile to see what is achievable with the VF35. Great little turbo, can be a bit "lively" i.e. prone to compressor surge with certain mods like the FMIC.

[QUOTE]
Your wrong - its a TD04L 13T-6 (L means the smallest turbine of the four in the TD04 range and a 13T compressor wheel, actually this is confusing as the 13T-6 wheel is much bigger than the 14T (and 13T-4) and much nearer in size to the 13G - there is no MHI built TD04 16G, although there are 15G and 16T)

My choice for the last 25k or so has been a VF35, which with supporting mods (ie uprated inj/STI TMIC/scoop/ported headers etc) makes in excess of 340/330. In the WRX's 'lighter' body (1380 v's 1490kgs STI) really does do the business. Actually, the weight is probably a little less, due to a few dieting tips..
Choose to believe this or not, but my car has basically identical performance to a well modded and very rapid 06 spec c pushing 380/390.. Yes I know the c with those figures will have a higher power to weight, but on the road there's nothing in it..!
I await the flames..

Nothing much, just suspension, wheels, brakes, exhaust, battery etc, etc...
The irony of it is that most of the time the car is full of kids seats, pushchair, toys and a bunch of other cr@p that comes with being a parent..

Your TD04 should be at FULL boost well before 3k if mapped correctly..!

With a fully warmed exhaust and turbo mine will hit 1bar of boost in 4th at 2700rpm and peak at 1.55bar just below 3k and holds 1.3bar to 6k, which is nice..
The VF35 does need some wg porting to prevent boost creep and they can be noisy (whistling), but I like that..
IMHO the thing that's often over looked when choosing a turbo for the WRX is the 'long' UK 5sp ratios. If you go too big on the turbo you can end up with a big performance hole around 30mph, where 2nd is to long and 1st unpractical. All because you simply cannot generate enough exhaust flow/engine speed to spin a big turbo. Certainly in the case of the 2.0l anyhow (2.5 should be better)..!

im thinking of going down this route myself, vf34/35 sti top mount, 550's ...therefor would i be right in assuming that i wouldnt see a great deal of difference in either turbo? and getting the cheaper vf35 would be good enough.
i dont want to go mad maybe 310/310ish

i'm in your exact shoes. (looking for the same mods)
i was looking for the vf34 or 35 and i googled alot
and it seems that the VF35 (should be new age STI turbo)
it should have standard 265bhp (my td04 is mapped and is 268bhp)
it should also be a faster spooling turbo than the vf34
now mine spools at 2.5k so i'm hoping that the vf35 would spool in between 2.5 and 3 and not later, i also rarely rev over 5k so people talking about vf35 drops power in higher revs and the vf34 keeps going doesn't bother me.
hopefully from mine to get from 215bhp to 268bhp (torque were 290) after remap (increase of 53bhp)
i'm hoping that the vf35 could get from 265 to 315 easily after remap and maybe torque in the same area

One thing to remember when going from a mapped TD04 setup is that you will notice the difference in response. Even with a VF35 you will initially feel the difference at ~2000rpm, makes the throttle pedal feel a bit numb at low engine speeds.
It's inevitable, due to the very small size of the TD04. If this is something that might bother you then you may want to consider a TD04 hybrid, which has the same ridiculously low response of a std TD04, but has more sustained grunt in the mid-range. Will still drop off at just over 5k and headline peak around 300-320 depending on supporting mods etc. TBH for a fast road car it's a cracking setup..
However, power to the pound the vf35 is still top of the heap IMHO. Response is still fantastic and you soon get used to the slightly slower spool and then wallow in the massive mid to redline grunt that the bigger turbo provides..
If you look at my boost response figures I posted earlier they're excellent by any standards. There ain't many turbochargers that can hit 1bar by 2800rpm, peak at 1.55 by 3000rpm, hold 1.3 at 6000 and produce nigh on 350bhp and if you shop around all for less than £300..!

On my old setup, td04, k&n typhoon, decat centre pipe and blitz back box with ecutek, I saw 275bhp. My new setup, td05 18g, decat uppipe, 550 pinks, front mount, uprated fuel pump, ninja sports downpipe and decat cat pipe with a simtek ecu, I'm running about 340 bhp.
Recently got a decat downpipe, so will be tweaking the ecu, hoping to get 350+
Imo, with the new turbo its not as responsive at low revs, but as soon as you hit boost you feel it hard
