Im another for the VF35 on MY00, Ive had 1.60 bar of boost out of it, its a noisy bugga, sounds like its sucking in loads of air (I've removed the air box resonator).

i am going down the vf35 route very soon having just purchaced an sti lump for my uk turbo, has a decat on it with 2.5 bore complete system and im making 250hp (dyno proved) without a remap on a 97 uk turbo 2000, i am going to be doing 550cc injectors, front mount, vf35, uprated fuel pump, apexi or simtek ecu and induction kit, stainless unequal length headers and i think i will see a good 340hp+, cant wait for it, 100hp more is gonna be good!!!

Don't bother with aftermarket headers mate. Port and wrap the standard ones.

You might also like to stay with 440s (although I went to 550s), as they should get you to 320-330. Might save you a few quid. Maybe speak with your mapper about it.

David at APi, Harvey Smith

That was my thinking, but the problem with 550s is that they are running well below their capability on the VF35 and that can result in mapping issues on small throttle openings i.e. the car can feel lumpy below the boost threshold, especially with Ecutek, if you're going for Simtek, it might not be so much of an issue though, as it has better control of fueling.

See what your mapper thinks.

I have a 93 JDM WRX with a TD05 16g and 440s. I was interested in a different turbo. What would be a good upgrade for this? I am hoping for a bit faster spool with the same mid and top end.

similar question to Sniper above - I have a MY99 with a crappy TD04 which always feels like the power delivery is very very smooth and gradual. I am debating an upgrade as i have the following set up:

Walbro 255
Induction Kit
FMIC
Ecutek ECU on its way
Full de-catted stainless

Obiously this will need mapping aswell but just wanted to know your thoughts really.Any guesses on what this would make on the rollers?

hi guys,my wagon(99) uk turbo has got ninja sports cat downpipe, magnex mid and h&s backbox with sti 5 ic,had a tek 3 done,it only fetched 238bhp on the tdo4 but did manage 280lbft,but i did find that after it was mapped i had a dodgy knock sensor and plugs were due.maybe this was why is was a bit down on power?the standard fuel pump was left on it aswell.i have a vf35 waiting to be fitted with the walbro pump and then a map tweek, what gains in power and torque will i be looking at roughly? im hoping to bring it up to 300/300,is this possible or am i dreaming?

That's achievable, I got 338bhp and 343ft lbs Torque on my spec. See my profile.

If I were you I'd either:

a) Go for an ECU that allows in gear boost compensation to be mapped in e.g. Simtek.
b) Get a good boost controller that the mapper can set up when they next map the car e.g. AVC-R

Makes a very big difference to drive-ability and in gear performance.

to be honest its all a bit much for me,just wondered whether by using a vf35 instead of tdo4 i would get 300/300 or close to it? the tdo4 thats on my car may be a bit tired as it has done 135k and bearing in mind when car was mapped it had a fault 22 knock sensor at the time and plugs were due.would a vf35 with map tweek gain me 50 odd bhp?

any ideas on what tubby to go for....it looks like the VF35 is a winner hands down....lol

Im obviously going to limit myself to a max of about 320hp as im running standard internals and im not goin down the route of forged internals... id be happy with similar torque figures too.
