Default Anyone runnig 500 bhp(+) with ppg straight cut?

Hello,

I was wondering who's running 500 bhp+ with ppg's straight cut synchro's 5mt.
I know ppg's are rated at 450 bhp.

Could this work for my setup? forged 2.5 and gt35r .82, looking for 500 bhp.

Thanks

Greetz.

They are the normal gearbox of choice for most older cars with 500bhp plus

I have your setup but with a 6 speed gearbox

Really Steve?? for 500??

My GT30 on my cossie was a great turbo, 35s are slightly lagier again and imo more suited for a 550bhp turbo..

Both turbo's will make 500. The better one is the one that suits your need best i.e. spool Vs power.

For the record yes I have 500+ and a straight cut ppg box. The noise isn't too bad, my main gripe with is it the slack in the drivetrain. Makes on/off throttle changes very jerky.

I had the synchro version, ultimately broke third with about 350whp. Now that 440whp I have the PPG straight cut 'dog' gearset rather than fixing the synchro set.

Is that because its straight cut? I'm looking at building a helical cut box, would it be the same?

Thanks for the info guys

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should hold up right? But I guess it's not reliable though...
Here in Holland almost all the fast guys have 6 speed's, but I don't like the gearratio's.

Pete,
Steve's is fine..... especially if you want to lose out on lowend grunt as part of your remit. Anyway, Steve wouldn't know about 500+bhp since his turbo has never reached that pinnacle yet.

Roel,
I have heard of PPG's busting below 500bhp, but I am not sure of the circumstances. However, it is the torque that is the killer.
