MY01 funny feeling under power
#1
as u can tell by the title i am not a mechanical gurru!
2nd gear, foot to the floor- turbo comes in then at 4000rpm it feels iffy- still gaining speed but seems to loose the edge? then at 4500rpm it picks up again?
whats that then? flat spot? and who put it there! it never use to do that!

I've got exactly the same thing. MY01 non ppp though. Its almost as if the car holds back momentairly then goes again.
I looked at my rolling road prinout and around those revs the boost levels off slightly then rises again.
Thought it was nothing but if someone else thinks its wrong then it worries me slightly.
Nathan..

My rolling road run, two days ago, showed exactly the same thing.
It seems that is a " flat spot" between the 4000 rpm and 4500 rpm in the MY01.
The problem seems to be solved after i changed the whole exhaust from the up-pipe to the back box- no cats at all.
Straight pull from 2k to the redline, no flat spots, no lag, no hesitations.

Could a simple noise issue be appearing? Many of the older subies really benefit from cleaning up the grounding due to poor earthing. You could cure it with an earthing kit pretty simply. They are cheap and pretty simple (if you DIY it).
May be worth a try, then again, maybe not

Mine did it too... I was running a decat centre and backbox.
Changed to an HKS and the problem seemed be resolved.
Put and d/p on and things got much better.. 2700 = full boost

One of the tests the Impreza has to go through before being granted UK E11 Type Approval is that it has to pass a drive by noise test. I can't remember what this involves offhand but is basically an acceleration test with a DB meter check. Simply, there is an algorithm in the ECU that backs off the boost to cut the noise down at the critical part, so it will pass the test.

Not sure if it was written out of the code on the PPP, but as the PPP was an aftermarket fit then it doesn't *have* to be in there - vehicle type approval doesn't apply.
This is also why all the UK300's had to be registered before the PPP was fitted.
Cure if the algorithm is still in there? - Link, Unichip, MoTec.....

Hi Caronte,
It is about 18 Celcius degrees in Athens at this time of the year, it is a warm and dry winter!
I'll let you know about any overboost problems next week when i'll have a boost gauge fitted to my car.
I made one run, after fitting the exhaust, with a boost gauge temporarly fitted to my car and i had not experienced any severe overboosting problems.
Cheers
