I've been carefully messing about with a Dawes Device- having spent more time reading the various posts on here and i-club- about the various issues with the MY01.

I have fitted Autometer boost and EGT gauges, and have also fitted an AFR meter, kindly calibrated for me by Darren Dawes.

My main concern was the EGT, so I metered it at stock boost with and without the Dawes, and I have not seen any temperatures above about 1200f- approx 650c. However, my EGT probe is mounted in the downpipe next to the turbo and the various posts on i-club suggest that this may be somewhere between 75 and 150c below the temp in the manifold. So even after some spirited driving it's still only around the 800c mark. It's probably important to mention at this point that i'm running on Optimax. According to the AFR meter the mixture is fine, running a little rich at the top end.

When I add the Dawes Device in to the equation, the EGT is VERY similar to the readings without it. AFR remains very similar also. The only time that the EGT rises, and the AFR meter shows any cause for concern, is when feathering the throttle and boost is building up. This is easily corrected by a slight adjustment of the throttle and does not concern me overly much.

I am only running stock boost (approx 14psi) with the Dawes at the moment- I will report further when (if) I get braver- but even at this boost level the car feels A LOT quicker and more responsive.

I am keen to hear of other peoples experiences with the Dawes and the MY01, and if i'm missing anything please let me know.

It appears to work well, at this boost level, with my car and careful monitoring. I think i'd remove it before a track day or a long motorway run, though, just to be on the safe side.

Now that you are monitoring I don't think you need to remove anything. Thanks for posting this useful info. Seems worthwhile to turn the boost up and collect some more results - it would be nice to see what you get at say 16 PSI.

got a bit braver this morning and have now increased to somewhere between 15 and 16 psi.
ETG still ok although need to be increasingly careful with throttle. However it's not bad enough during normal driving to cause any heat issues- just seeing the AFR gauge showing a little leaner than i'd like.
and the tyres get *curiously* rather warm.....

surely i'm not the only one on scoobynet with a dawes on a MY01?? let's hear from you!

Forgive me, but what is the AFR gauge? Where do you get them? I am thinking of a Dawes on my MY01, boost gauge on order so just reading all isses regarding them.

AFR is air to fuel ratio.
I got mine from scoobymania, www.scoobymania.co.uk.
I bought the autometer gauge- and don't forget you need a temperature probe as well.

RRH - glad to here about MY01 tips, I was begining to think that no one had bought any, with the lack of postings on here!

I have a MY01 and have just ordered my Dawes direct from the states. What sort of performance increase can I expect with boost of about 15psi - is it really, really noticeable or a bit subjective ?

Is this Dawes device compatible with the Link or is it an economic performance add on ?

Rob you should be able to get your Link to hold boost how you want and so not need a Dawes.

you can really feel the force, even at stock boost.
just be careful to watch the gauges carefully though- mine seems to be ok at but some would disagree.

Just ordered my Dawes and boost guage.

Just wondered if your car has PPP fitted?

I asked the dealer to check max boost on my car from the select monitor, 15.5 PSI, I presume that this is max rather than sustained, what I am really looking for is better mid range throttle response.

I also read on another thread some time back that the max boost that a PPP car should run is 1.2 bar (~17.5 PSI).

ppp max boost at the moment is near the 1.35 bar.
will the dawes work with ppp my01wrx ie keep boost up longer?
don't thnk i better go higher!

mine is not a ppp.

i have now has the dawes on for about 2 months with no problems. however, i did decide to replace the up-pipe and the temperatures are now a little lower.

curiously i haven't noticed any temp change between dawes on or off!

i have just added a Forge VTA dump valve from jamie at performanceexhausts.net (highly recommended, by the way). it seems to bring boost on a little sooner, and i love the extra pops and bangs. not so keen on the whooshy noises though- it attracts far too much attention.
