I sell both and the AP one is better. And cheaper now than they used to be. Once it was no contect as the price difference made it a no brainer.

There also seem to be an amount of spurious Exedy's out there for sale currently and I firmly believe that there is someone in China or somewhere doing a copy job.

As our version, bought in Japan, never give trouble in their correct applications and yet I hear many horror stories of the 'pink box ' Exedy not doing what it is suppose to do.

Call if I can help. To answer your first question, no they are not the same.

Hi,

Unless you are planning more mods, I would stick with an OE Exedy Clutch Kit which is ideal at that level and a lovely clutch to drive.

Far cheaper than an uprated clutch - which you just don't need at your current level of mods.

As David says, there are some questionable Exedy products out there (usually found on popular auction sites).

If you stick to Authorised Advertisers on ScoobyNet you should be fine.

Our products are 100% genuine.

I will PM you a price

One thing that is worth baring in mind though is that if you plan to upgrade it's best to get an uprated clutch, as replacing them is a big job (circa 4 hours) so no point paying two lots of labour, especially since the Exedy uprated one is very OEM like to use!

thanks for the replies...

I will want to do a few mods - the car is a keeper, and I'll probably move towards 300lbs/ft from the 260lbs/ft I have at the moment, hence the question of which uprated clutch to choose.

David - I was told they WERE the same kit, so from someone who sells both it's nice to hear that they are not.

Where you may be getting poor info is that: AP start with an Exedy cover plate - rip out everything except the main body stamping and rebuild with their own parts. Then they photo etch AP Racing onto the newly chromed Exedy cover.

The friction disc is their own through and through. There was a time when you could pick up Exedy logo's on the AP stuff. That has changed and l must change our sales pitch for the Exedy accordingly, because we still say on there, that they are basically the same product. They are not.

Apparently AP use the main body cover because it is cheaper for them to buy from Exedy, than it is to make their own for such a low volume.

Lot of fake exedys around, so much so that the exedy site has a guide to spotting them lol. Just buy one from a reputable person and there's no worry
