Default Can not engage 5th or 6th

After a bit of advice...

I have a MY05 Impreza STI PPP. As of lunch time today the lever on the gearstick you pull up the engage reverse is stuck in the up position and it won't return it's original postion. Because of this I can't engage 5th or 6th gear.

Any advice other than taking it to the garage? Subaru dealers aren't too common round my way.

Thanks,

Mark

Have you tried everything to get it back down i.e brute force? Then if you break it, take it to a dealers.

Ive removed the screws and taken the panel out. There's no tension on the cable that pulls the lever down...

Either the pin for the selector cable for reverse has broken/fallen off or the cable has broken.

I'd have said that the plunger was just stuck up inside the actual gear ****, but that is unlikely if the cable is slack.

Thanks for the input guys.

I think it's a Subaru job, it's still under manufacturers warranty. There's a couple of other warranty jobs need doing so I'll get them all done at once.
