Thinking of going for the Magnex BB with my SS Mid section - anyone think this is the wrong choice? I was thinking that Magnex 6x4 is supposed to look better than the SS and TSL, sound better, and also be cheaper as well? Surely it can't be all this ! Anyone got a TSL or SS or Magnex which they aint happy with?

I had a Magnex 3.5" round BB which I've just changed for the SS BB which is much louder The 6x4 Magnex ASAIK is a bit noisier than the 3.5" though.......

Yes the Magnex is cheaper, quite a bit, and I must say when I took it off my car, the build quality looked better on the Magnex, IMHO of course . The Magnex comes with a lifetime guarantee and the SS is 25 years I think.

Hope that helps
Neil.

I don't know if this is any help but Pete Jarvis at Ascar exhausts

in Sheffield is very good IMHO he fitted a Stainless Steel BB and

removed the center cat, power increase was very noticable. Going

for MOT next month so see if it will pass without the cat? MY97

also fitted a K&N 57i,the exhaust note is not too loud on the

motorway but louder than standard when at idle. Give him a ring on

0114 272 2888. Cost about £300 with me supplying the K&N and them

fitting.

cheers

Ian

Cheers for help people.....so scoobyjawa you had a magnex and went for the SS in the end, you do hear alot of people doing that, i.e. going from magnex to SS. And you never hear of people going from SS to magnex?

I dunno, sounds like lots of people end up with SS despite starting off with other makes !

I dunno....I think I'm gonna go with a SS. Even though magnex sound very good and look slightly better it seems that people still always end up with a SS for some reason or another ! Crazy. I dunno, no-one's really said why yet either !

SS are only 5 mins drive from me as well ... .

Thing is magnex are £80 or so cheaper....!

I wonder if a 6x4 will look better in the bumper than the SS as well? Being a nice and large 6x4 like.

I stil dunno ! After all these threads on exhausts and good advice.

Alex

I think the best way to decide is going to a Sunday meeting. You will be able to listen and observe most configurations.
This is what I did when I was in England and it did help me a lot.

Alex,

I had a full Magnex system and changed just the backbox for SS. (My other half said the car wasn't loud enough and didn't pop and bang enough so that was the push that got the SS)

The Magnex was great, on WOT the thing bloody roared (commented by Dyney when I passed him on the last Sussex meet and he has a SS system) but wasn't as loud as SS. It was great for motorway trips too because it didn't get too loud and intrusive.

I was very happy with the Magnex. I've seen a few threads where people have ditched the SS for Magnex as the SS was too loud to live with.

Power wise I think there is no difference, each giving about the same. My MY99 with full magnex decat, ITG and dawes gave 266bhp and 257 torque against a mates MY00 with SS decat, K&N and dawes @ 268bhp and 251 torque.

Also bearing in mind how much cheaper the magnex is it is a fantastic bit of kit. Not sure on the oval myself, I prefer the round, the oval looks a bit OTT and "Sport" like IMHO

Hope that helps some more

cheers scoobyjawa

I think I'm going to end up with a TSL though ! Thing is I have a standard DP on at the mo and will have for a while I think until I work out exactly how the MOT is gotten round, and whether I can be assed to change it once a year or whatever? ...but anyway, I have a SS mid and will soon have a TSL back box....so hopefully it won't be too loud all in all.

When / if I decide to go for a decat DP, I guess I'll have to sell the TSL cos it'll be too loud in conjunction with the rest of the decat system !

I dunno.....I think I'm going to go for TSL though based on price looks and sound with my current system..

hope I don't make a bad choice, If I do I'm sure there's a few who would have it off me 2nd hand !

nice one

Cheers
Alex
