Question

John Banks
When connecting the Dawes do we infact do away with the existing waste gate.
From what I can see under the bonnet the hose from the nipple on the turbo does indeed go to the waste gate. However there is a "T" junction in the hose between the turbo nipple and waste gate about half way along the length of the same hose.
This "new" hose" (coming from the bottom of the "T") goes to a Denso electrical solenoid/switch of some sort bolted with some other solenoids, in front of the "RIGHT SHOCK STRUT MOUNT"
Are you still with me?
Where do you put the Dawes in all of this?
Do I eliminate the bit to the waste gate or to the Denso solenoid?
HELP!!
I need to know ALL the details so that I can label the photos with all the relevant parts under the bonnet.

The Denso is the Boost Control Solenoid Valve (hinge lever bracket assembly ) - it is pulsed open/closed by the ecu & is how it controls boost.

If the solenoid failed, you'd run only around .7bar boost which is the wastegates spring resistance. The solenoid bleeds air away from the wastegate, allowing you to run higher boost than the wastegate spring's pressure.

As Scoty says, connect up the Dawes to remove the Solenoid from the circuit - if you remove the wastegate from the circuit, and watched your boost guage very carefully, you would at least find out the exact boost level that fuel is cut, but your engine wont thank you...nor your windscreen by all accounts

Talking

I am not a guru because I am do not have enough knowledge, am not old enough, do not wear a dress or sandles and do not have disciples.

"The above stated by the Subaru congnoscenti is true and wise, follow it and your turbo boost will prosper."

Pitfalls - 1. connecting the wrong way round. 2. using the restrictor hose off the turbo nipple. 3. leaving the solenoid connected. 4. insufficient bleed on small turbos giving crap driveability and part throttle full boost with lean conditions.

Thumbs up

John, what are you taking about 'Oh Great one', I am your greatest disciple and I have followed your teachings since day one of the 'beginning to penny pinching enlightenment'. Oh Great Sage of the North, please may I queue at your 'surgey of wisdom' for more divine interventions for better performance on a budget?

Cool

Perhaps I will admit only to being a 5th order minor guru of cheapskate bodgers but no more than that.

Wink

Pah, only a 5th order Guru, to think I was gonna give up my job and trek, on my knees, all the way to the Himalayas to pay homage to you.

A 5th order Guru only deserves to be e-mailed incesantly with "how do I fit my Dawes again"?, "whats the best AFR for a '96 WRX"?, "can you fit my bits to my car"? and other such amusing correspondance. LOL

Floyd P*SS off m8 Stop bringing threads with my name in to the top - I know there are at least four in drivetrain/gen tech alone.

Edit maybe should not have admitted that to a muppet or you'll go and find them all and bring them to the top to annoy me! You are a muppet aren't you - well go back to General Questions and Muppets then where you belong
