Default UK Turbo2000 gearbox in classic WRX?

Hi guys, here's the thing..... I love my 95WRX to bits, but it is SERIOUSLY undergeared, 80mph is around 4k rpm (GPS)... So I've been wondering, what options have I got as far as transmission is concerned? I have modest power (around 260-270bhp with a ESL chip), but the motor will still pull to the redline in top gear (I have access to a runway...).
So, will we be talking a six-speed box, or just the Uk box and rear diff? (I have no particular need for a six-speeder apart from the higher ratio). I'm really interested to hear thoughts about this, any input is really appreciated!

you'll need the uk gearbox and the diffs

depends how much you wanna spend, rebuilding the box and changing the wrx 5th gear for a uk5th gear will solve it, but it wont be cheap for the box recon

Thanks Tidgy, what ratio will a UK 5th give me with the WRX final drive, any idea? I'm having trouble getting my head around the different diff ratios, but I figure that a UK 5th in a WRX box will give a different mph per rpm than one in a UK box with UK diffs?
Andy97, thanks. That's good to know... Will do some research and see where it gets me.

Been looking at this too.

You could change the front crown wheel and pinion gears etc and then have a matching rear diff all from a UK car. A lot of messing about to be honest, although my box is coming out soon anyway so I may go this route.

Wayne.

Assuming that the 175mph max is based upon an STi's 8000rpm limit (could you confirm, Tidgy?) that would mean 66mph at a leasurely 3000rpm. Sounds ideal....

no, the 175 is based on the uk's red line (7.2k is it?) never realy taken it that far to find out lol

have been told my car would max it out though (340bhp), but havn't tried lol

Even better. Thanks for that, looks like I'll be sourcing some UK box parts at least... Maybe even a complete box and diff.

lol, tbh not sure what it would be like keeping the sandard 1-4 from the wrx for a nice useable sprint, but then having the 5th for cruising, i know its pretty popular to do that on type r's due to there extream short gearing
