You need to make sure you have the correct diff set up, and also the linkage and prop from the 6 speed to match you’re existing.
As for bashing the bulk head I hope not ... Simple spacers on the cradle will solve any clearance issues.

Doing the exact same thing to my classic at the moment and you will need the following items:
6 speed box, gear linkage and prop.
In regards to the diff you a have two options:
1) Use the diff that comes with the 6 speed box but then you need the driveshafts, hubs and brembos brakes
2) Slightly easier option get hold of 3.9 diff from a version 2 sti ra (very rare i hasten to add) and keep your driveshafts, hubs and brakes.

Yes it is Graham but whats the point if it has no LSD? If you are moving to a 6speed box, generally means you will running some good power and with no LSD it would just spin the inside wheel powering out of a corner.
Also after a couple of hard launches the sport diff would spit its dummy out and not want to play anymore

Would you do some pics of the build?

Yes, but if you go that route you need a matching drive shaft (offside I think)
If its a UK STI 6 speed box pre MY05 then all you need is a UK classic rear diff, auto prop and the linkage.
05 onwards you need the above plus front stub shafts and seals from a MY01-04 IIRC

What I meant about the diff was thesport has the right ratio so can be used as a base for a plated diff.
Boy, do i ever know about different driveshafts.....
I can remember last year someone winning on ebay for £1600 the whole running gear less engine from a new age, so box/diff hubs/Brembos and all that. What a deal. What a good way uprate nearly everything!

I have done this to my classic.
If your car is a UK car then source a UK STI 6 speed.
You'll need a propshaft from a six speed or an auto wrx and the six speed gear linkage.
It then just all bolts together. I have used the five speed clutch and the five speed starter motor too.
The UK gearbox mates up with the UK diff. Other diff and original country of origin cars becomes a minefield.

I hate double posting but I just noticed this more recent thread on the same subject.
I am curious to know if a 6-speed would fit a GB 1997 Sport Hatch ? From what I have read it seems there is enough room to fit to a Turbo/WRX so I guess it shoud fit if it is compatible. The Sport has a cable clutch and the dual range box and a 3.9:1 final drive.
The extra weight (and expense) might make it uneconomical even if the longer 6th would improve motorway cruising and economy.
