I have a suitable power (10W) wirewound resistor of 47 ohms which I can put across the ECU connections to the solenoid as I want to control it with my own circuit.

The resistance of the factory solenoid is about 30 ohms. Anyone know how the error system works - ie if I could put a much larger resistor across it to save heat and space.
