The standard stuff thats stated in the handbook is good, you have to note that A-DCCD cars NEED this changing every year instead of every 2 years

In my opinion the 75W140 is too thick. In oil terms 75 is the viscosity that it behaves as at 0 centrigrade or thereabouts and the higher number is what it actually is; I.E. 140 grade - which will kill power, as it is like treacle.

75W90.

Mercedes and othere [ I guess ] have sealed for life transmissions with no way to change the oil. The only time it can be changed is when the transmission has a rebuild. It can be topped up of course, but not drained.

Gear oil is good stuff and providing that the magnet is working, any small particle debris should attach to that.

I'd go with 15,000 miles as a comfort thing, rather than a specific need.

Who knows what Subaru do, as opposed to supposed to do. Changing gearbox oil in an Impreza is a horrible job, as it takes so long to do and can be very messy if you to try to hurry it up. Wouldn't surprise me if the mecchies at a dealers ignore that bit......

What are we talking about here?

The thread starter wanted rear diff oil but people seem to be talking about the gearbox oil? If the 06 JDM STI has a plated rear diff, shouldn't it need some LS stuff rather than the usual 75w90?

David, the 05 box has a drain plug on the gearbox, I assume the 06 has the same - are you saying that the DCCD transfer box has its own compartment now and isn't easily changed / filled? I thought its all linked so you can use the drain / dipstick hole (and obviously the same 75w90 oil), just like the old 5 speeds?? Or are you saying its a pain bacause the drain doesn't drain ALL of the oil (and if so is it the transfer box that doesn't drain?)

OE Subaru LSD or the Motul Equivilant...they are 'Mechanical Limited Slip' and therefore need special treatment and not just any old gear oil whether it be Syn' or Dino'.

Make sure it is LS oil you use. STI's have Mechanical Limited Slip as
SekretSkwirl02 writes.

Just change it once a year and you are on the safe side. If you do alot of trackdays. Do your self a favour and change it every time or 2nd. time. It's better to use a couple of punds on oil than braking the gearbox or diff. ?

I use castrol LS oil
