Default Bugger broke something

Not sure whats failed either gearbox or clutch. Had car serviced 3 days ago, all fluids/gearbox/diffs etc.

Took it for blast today and within a few mins I had a grinding noise coming from the box. It's ok below 3000 revs anything over this and it makes a really loud grinding/clanking noise.

I cannot use 5th gear at all and it grinds going into 5th if I do. When parked up if I put it in reverse it goes so far back then the drive train locks up. Anyone one got any ideas as to what the problem may be...other than costly.

now isnt that a coincidence, had a service last year, all fluids just like you, 2 weeks later, massive oil leak, ended up having new crank, bearings etc, very costly (dont ask ) and yet the garage that did the service said nothing was wrong

btw, david at api sorted me out as well

Could be just a coincidence that it broke. Checked oil and it's still full. Just unlucky with the timing of it maybe. Cannot see how changing the oil would make any difference unless it was the wrong oil of course.

They have a good rep and plenty of years knowledge so I would not of thought it would be the wrong oil.

Pull the drain plug out mate, you've got nothing to lose - I suspect that you'll find some teeth attached to it.

The description of the problem suggests a busted gear to me. Could have happened any time and the service is just a coincidence.

Call me Monday if I can help

David

It was probably coincidence, but there is always that nagging thought at the back of your mind...anyways, david has replied so hopefully he and you can sort it

Well I pulled the box out today after working a 12 hour night shift, drained the oil and nothing much to report, a very small amount of fillings on the plug but no big lumps. Gone away for a rebuild so should be back on the road this week.

Dave, it would be a long way to travel to come and see you so the guy who looks after the car is rebuilding the box but cheers anyway.
