Default Misfire thread .. again

There always seems to be misfireing threads on here but never the same solution!

My brothers car has been misfireing for ages and we can't get to the bottom of it. (MY95 WRX)

Plugs have been replaced
coil packs replaced
Earthing kit fitted to the engine

What else could it be?

1 note was that when we replaced the std air box with a cone filter it seemed to get better, coinsidence or could it be MAF related ?

Any ideas appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

I thought I had misfire in my MY00 when I first got it. Changed plugs, no joy.

My bro is a mechanic and said it looked like misfire, but we were not sure so took it to my local Subaru specialist.

They plugged the car into some diag stuff and it turned out to be the MAF sensor. Got it replaced - problem solved - fun restored !

I had missfire on my 03 sti took it back to three different main dealers, no- one could suss it had all sensors replaced etc..

After the 11th time of being sent back they changed the ecu, this was the problem, it was a dirty connection on the plug to the ecu.
This was 13 month ago and never had any problem since.
Try it you have nothing to loose and it won't cost you a fortune in a process of elimination.

Good luck.

Not sure, but they isolated my problem by fitting a new maf and driving it.

Maybe swap over the two (if they are compatible) and drive both, see if your's is still suffering with his maf, and if his drives any different with your maf fitted.

my car was doing this only when it was cold tho,
was the multi plug next to the washer bottle took it apart cleaned and lubricated it no probs any more.(contols for the injectors are in them)
have you tried just unpluging the maf with the car running should just cut out if maf ok?

sorry for hijacking, I have an euro my98 impreza turbo, just has a green panel filter and dawes at 1,15 bar. with the standard exhaust system I have lot's pops and bangs... could this be the MAF? when I bought the scooby ( 3 years ago ) I bought a full decat system and had all the pops and bangs, but with the stock system it's the same...
