In the process of preparing to carry out the same modification myself and as I'm aware you will require the selector linkage and the propshaft with the 6 speed box. The correct mountings for the box I've been adviced to fit due to the extra weight. Also depending on if it's a JDM box you will require the rear diff as a different size diameter. If it's a UK box your exsisting rear diff will be fine the clutch and flywheel from your 5 speed box will fit into the 6 speed box. That's all I'm aware you will require to carry out the swap but the experts will be along soon to set you straight.

I used the gearbox and linkage from the 6 speed car, a prop from an auto scoob and a 3.9 rear diff (unless you have an RA model). Had to modify the diff slightly and machine the gearbox to take the starter. Best to fitn an uprated Prodrive gearbox mount at the same time (still got to do mine)

Hope this helps

You'll need a 6 speed box from a "Type UK" Sti 7/8/9.
It's matching propshaft, gear linkage, selector fork and gear ****.
To keep the box more ridgid in it's mountings (because it's bigger and very close to body work) buy some Group N engine mounts and a Group N Prodrive gearbox mount. I got the mounts from Lateral Performance and the gearbox and all it's associated bits came from a lad on here (Money)
Other than that it bolts straight on and the front shafts attach the same way as normal.
Shouldn't take any longer than a normal gearbox change would.

As has been said above if you end up buying a JDM box then you'll have to **** about changing the Crownwheel on the rear diff. (far too much hassle. )

Can you explain this please? Are you using a 5 speed starter, flywheel and clutch then?

Must say I'm using a five speed starter, five speed clutch and flywheel.
Didn't have any problem bolting it all up.
However mine is on a 00MY and I know the starters had an issue on the early ones.
A good DIY way (bodge in my eyes but they say it works) is to use a "Rawl bolt" instead of machining anything.

Still using the 5 speed starter, clutch and flywheel. It was fitted to a 94 WRX so the box was machined slightly to fit the starter. The only problem I have is that, if your not careful, you can go straight past 5th into nothing. A few people have suggested adjusting it, others have said they get the same problem.

I don't follow, why would it do this if only the clutch & starter changed?

I'm lost too.

What exactly did you machine... Need to machine?? off the box to get it to fit?

I have a 6MT conversion in my MY98 wagon. When I was to fit the starter, I found the difference between the 5MT and 6MT. On the 5MT, one of the bolts was pressed into the gearbox housing - whereas on the 6MT it protruded into a mounting in the engine. This was solved by using a M12 tap, this way I could bolt the starter to the gearbox instead. Obviously not as strong, but it has lasted 50.000 km without problems (I used thread lock).

Perfect Hmhaga, I've often heard of problems with this, that makes it clear... there is no problem.

The older starter motors, ie pre MY99 need a little grinder off the inner edge (box side) so the two holes on the starter motor match the two holes on the gearbox. This is because the Phase 1 starter motor is BIGGER than the phase 2 one and cant rotate in towards the box due to the case of the box being bigger than the 5 speed.
