Default Vibration / rattle

I seem to get a rattle / vibrating noise coming from my gearbox!

It happens when the revs are falling from about 2k or im holding the car at a steady slow pace. It goes away if i push the gear leaver to one side whilst in gear or if i put the clutch in/its in neutral.

Im gonna have a go and rip the centre console out and see if i can find something loose but anyone have any ideas?

Ollie

Have the same problem with my 03 sti, in all gears at around 3000rpm, and again at 4500rpm, a loud buzzing noise that sounds like a heat sheild but checked all that dont seem to be any from what i can see,it has got a noisey clutch release bearing on tick over and clutch is very high, there was a thread on this about the clutch not being balanced to the flywheel or something thus causing a vibration noise,Mines going in to the dealer to sort in a few weeks.

Hmmm this is a MY00 classic, but does also have a high clutch pedal!

Very strange that it disappears when i press on the gear stick slightly!

Let me know how you get on, would be very interested to find out what solves it.

Ollie, think yours sounds more gearbox rather than clutch like mine, the classis's do suffer from weak gearboxes especially as when you push the gearstick the noise goes, have you tryed heat sheilds????? i'v had 2 classics and 1 did have a vibration noise which was the heat sheild.

I have had a quick look yeah, think it might be gearbox.

Im sourcing a new centre console piece because mine is all scratched, so when i replace that i'll check that theres no loose nuts.
